Got to brag a bit on our little Drolet Blackcomb. My hunny put a nice chunk of white oak in this morning @ 10:30 AM, then left for the day. We got home about 9:30 tonight, Had a nice little bed of coals left. Loaded a big split of white oak behind the coals, a small split of tulip poplar on top of the coals and filled up the rest with small chunks/ nuggets. About an hour later, such a pretty sight.
19f last night. I dipped into my oak and black locust special reserve. I can't seem to get enough heat upstairs to make the wife happy. It's a comfy 67f in the far bedroom right now...not good enough for her. Unfortunately I am not there at night to keep her warm.
We hit 20º this morning, Grandma burned slow last night and had a small bed of coals at 0500. 0630, got a couple nice oak splits going for the day.
Just about the same here but only 19f WeldrDave That and its still dark here. It'll be light enough to go for my walk in a couple minutes now.
15 degrees this morning. Still burning mostly shoulder wood, tulip and Catalpa. Toss in the oak for nighttime. Even tossed in the oak this morning. Haven’t turned the furnace on yet,,,,,,,or even ordered oil I did take the air conditioners out of the windows two days ago. That helps LOL
Much warmer this morning as it was 23 when I got up. Might even thaw a little this afternoon if we get up to 33 as predicted. Shoot, I would not mind seeing some more 40's for a while... Fat chance now though.
I was a bit disappointed this morning when I got up. House temperature was down to 70. Egads! Time to warm this place up!
Biscuits that are hand made, not rolled out with rolling pin, pinched off by hand and lightly rolled by hand, placed on pan, lightly pressed down with the knuckles of your hand. Best I can explain, lol...good eating with some gravy on them......
I never could figure out why anyone would ruin a good biscuit by putting gravy on them! I remember the first Christmas dinner we had at my inlaw's place. They made some delicious looking biscuits and when we sat down I could hardly wait for some. Then I didn't see anyone put them on the table. I freaked out! Then I found out they put them all in the gravy. OMG! They were ruined. But I will say from that time on, whenever we had a big dinner there, some biscuits were kept as is just for me. My inlaws were always good to me.
Never heard bon putting the biscuits IN the gravy. I eat biscuits any way I can get them, butter and syrup, cube steak gravy on them, country ham gravy and syrup, sausage gravy on them....you can tell a fat boy likes to eat...
As explained by my Grand Mother, her version is quick and easy. You make a thick sticky baking soda dough and drop large spoon fulls onto a cookie sheet. The dough drops are all lumpy and have peaks and blobs on them. Somewhere along the line someone had some biscuits that looked like a cats head with ears and a lumpy nose. Don't know if this is true but it is cute enough to repeat, just as it was passed down to us!
