Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

I think I'm doing it wrong.
Actually, the overnight isn't too bad, until temps get waaay cold.
That wasn't a full load....probably about half or maybe a bit more.
It's been suggested on more than one occasion to load the stove tight. I'll try that on the next load, but right now, the house is just under 75.
I may leave it alone for a bit.

 

My wife has been loading the 30 more this year since it is in the living room. On mild nights she will load it up for the night, and I don't think much of it since the temps aren't that cold. But, over the holidays we had a night that dropped into the teens so I went to load more wood into the stove before bed. Wife chimes in with "But, I just loaded the stove!?"

I rearranged the already on fire splits and I was able to fit five more splits into the 30.

 

I bet that was a "interesting" conversation!

Which one did you put in? I want to install one, but I don't like the cheap $4 unit sold at most places.

 

On the EXTREMELY rare occasion when my wife deigns to actually put wood in the stove, the fairly haphazard method she uses baffles me.
There's usually a split right across the front of the air intakes, blocking same.
Air has been left wherever I had it set. It smolders quite nicely like that.
Yet, she likes to think she knows how to load the stove.
Anyway, it's 2 now, and the house is still almost 74. We're fine.
I still want a BK.
Told my wife I'd run to the store as soon as the temp warmed up to zero, so I guess I better get going.

I have ICC double wall ultrablack stovepipe. They make a 5 inch double wall ultrablack pipe section with integral damper that sits right on top of my stove collar and slips into the slip section of stovepipe. It is very well made. Costs about $78.

 

-2 here in the Pines, just burning the wood stove up to this point, it's 79 in the basement, 70 in the living room and the sleeper holding at 68.

The first load this morning was two Beech uglies with two small Sugar Maple splits and the second load was three rounds of Ironwood with four smaller splits of Sugar Maple.

It's days like this that I would really like a bigger stove. Ive got 1.7cu ft of stove going up against 1800 sq ft of hundred year old farmhouse. It generally keeps up very well, but with single digits & wind tonight, I'll be setting an alarm for an overnight reload.

Burning BL, lighter stuff in between loads for burning down coals. If the coaling is too bad, I sometimes end up shoveling some out.

Most of us will be pushing our stoves harder than normal, so burn safely everybody!!

 

We have Beech in the wood stove and the pellet stove going, the living room is at 70, basement 80 and the sleeper coming in at 68..... the temp outside is -14.

Accuweather has us dropping to -20 with a realfeel of -56.

 

6:25. It is -11 and the feel with the wind is -30, so the weather channel says. The wind does not want to stop. It is not real fast, just steady and nasty.

 

This afternoon they sent messages out ahead of time announcing a two hour delay tomorrow for school districts in two places. My wife and kids like that!

 

7 degrees here in SE Ohio with 5.5" of snow...supposed to be 5 below zero tonight, colder with wind chill. Burning a mix of black locust, oak, and cherry. When it gets below zero, I run both my Clayton and my Jotul. We should stay warm....it is 77 degrees right now in the house upstairs, and 73 downstairs. Running them both keeps me from getting up in the middle of the night to load.

 

I've got 8 degrees right now...heading for -3 says the weatherman

A neighbor a couple houses down had a chimney fire last night. FD was there for over two hours walking around on the roof and pointing lights down the chimney.

 

Just under zero. Another load of hedge big enough to launch the space shuttle cooking now.

 

9 p.m. and it is -18F. The wind has simmered down a bit. Wind chill is supposed to drive it down to about -28 tonight. 73 here in the house, about to load both stoves for the night. Have a good night all.

 

-15 F, wind chill -39 forecast here. The lake "freeze dried" today: steam coming off it, blowing this way via very strong winds; bitterly, bitingly cold. Skipped the dog walking today. Just brought wood in. That was a cold enough experience. I have enough wood inside for a week, but replaced what I burned last night and today.

We are experiencing ice quakes. The dog is frantic with much comment whenever one occurs.

Burning a mix of ash, sugar maple and ironwood, depending on time of day. Keeping the house nice and warm, the stove a bit hotter than usual with a more active flame. All is good. Love wood heat. And the security it provides in the event of power outages. I can cook, heat the home.

 

Fairly cold for this area. 10F now and 3F by morning, windy too. 4 year CSS hedge for tonight just because I have some.
