High of 41 here on Sunday. Starting off earlier in day with snow. Up to 3”. And then changing to all rain. Looks like steady warmer temps coming later in the week too!
High of 45 today, calling for 55 tomorrow, so I've got some small soft maple, cherry and walnut making smoke right now and maintaining a comfortable 74*. I don't stack woods separately, but on mild days, I am selective to a certain degree to keep from making a terrible overswing in temperature in here.
Temperature is a little better and no rain for hours. I got home and hauled some splits out of the woods to the boiler shed since this weekend is shot weather wise. If I can get at it at sunrise, i will try to work on an oak for a little more. Have a funeral to attend, and the forecast shows no rain until right at the time it will be outside at the gravesite. Perfect. I resent Saturday funerals anyhow and rarely attend when folks decide to delay until then. Now it will be rain free all day until we are standing in it.
23F with a low of 21 predicted. Was sunny all day & felt nice. Got up close to 40 for a bit with no wind. 40 & cloudy tomorrow & rain Sunday. Oak & Maple in the boiler. Gonna cut up some downed Pine tomorrow.
29° outside this AM, 73° inside. Blower still cranking. Some pine in the hole. Headed up to 48° and sunny today Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Good Morning ya'll, 11* here now. That's about 10 deg colder than weather guessers predicted. The house is a cool 59, but a fire is roaring to life with a piece of super dry pine, 2 of Boxelder and one of Hard Maple to get the ball rolling this AM.
28 here. Ash and cherry burning. 43 for the high today with thunder storms! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Feels colder than 4, but that's what the thermometer says. Ash and yellow birch gonna make the OWB smile this morning!
"we were hurrying to get done so we could get to the saw shop open house for BBQ chicken and ice cream." and "goin to an oyster feed today..." Good thing he is generous with his bacon! bear 1998 has quite the lifestyle, I'm wicked envious.
Woke up to 25* this morning. Today's forecasted high is 42* with clear skies it looks like. Wont be long now...
16 and 77 this morning headed above freezing for a change and sunny all day. We better take advantage because 3” of slop are on tap for tomorrow morning. Still burning down last nights load of KD and Lewis bricks. The bricks are working out really well. They keep the STT up in the 500-600 range a lot longer than wood alone so there’s a noticeable increase in useable heat throughout the entire burn and they burn down to fine ash. That’s using one package of 12, 2 lb bricks, so 24 lbs. I put 3 splits down to cover the coals, pack the blocks in, and top off with small splits. Slightly longer burn time overall, but definitely more heat throughout the burn, and it comes up to temperature much quicker. I tried a whole bunch of different bricks and blocks earlier in the season and I like these ones the best so far. Some of the larger blocks would burn longer but not nearly as hot. These burn like nice dry wood. The only drawback is cost. At $299 a ton they’re similar to pellets and I’d say it’s too early to tell if a ton equals a cord of firewood but it’s definitely better than what is sold for “seasoned” so in that comparison I’d give the nod to the bricks. 3 year old oak, probably not. YMMV
