Good to have you here PA Dutch .Looks like about 3 F on the back porch. Some Maple, Cherry, Wood Pellets, and a little Rice Coal in the Wood Gun this morning.
TGIF hoarders!!!! About 20 ° currently, 73 inside!! Some ash and pine in the hole. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
17° and sunny, whatever, I have to babysit today. Tomorrow I'll be outside for sure. This is what's left in the basement. Plenty more in the shed.
21F . Feels like shorts and T-shirt weather..... Stove has been idling for many hours instead of running with its its tongue hanging out. Heavenly to be warming nicely. Elm load is down to another hour or two. Pine next. Of coarse tomorrow is rain/snow alllllll day! But its going to get warm. Over 40F by mid-week. Local news channels are already warning us to get our Arks ready. Record snow pack, frost depth and ground moisture content yada yada yada. Mud season next.
Negative 2 at 5am.. normal here is 33 high and 18 low.. Got to 14 yesterday.. Burning ash Welcome to the FHC PA Dutch
Welcome PA Dutch ! I can see a Fisher insert a mile away! I burn a Grandma Bear and been doing the pot, stew and water thing for 40 years! I cook on mine all winter long!
I burn about 16 hours a day. I'm guessing that pile will last a few weeks, temps on the 40's on the way. So if I burned 24/7, I guess it would last me 2 weeks. In any case, it needs to be gone by spring. I want to do a better job insulating the sill directly above the pile.
I don't cook on my Fisher insert. Kinda of unhandy since it's in the living room. I have heated up leftover soup/chili on it. Occasionally I put allspice, lemon rinds, apple peals or something good smelling in the pot of water. Makes the house smell like your cooking a pie.
You know what's even gooder than that? Actually making an apple pie. Smells great and you get.....apple pie. Win-win!
Started the day at 0. Currently at 30. Should get up to 35. Highs for the weekend mid 40s. Highs will range from low 30s to around 50 over the next week. I will take it.
10ºF colder than forecast last night, got up to 35ºF This afternoon. Except for where bare ground is the snow seems to be evaporating more than melting. Although it is more ice than it is snow. Brought two chunks of pine in from outside and tossed them in the stove to burn down some coals and the darn things charred over, turned black and went out. Was burning red maple all morning. Hoping it is warmer tomorrow and I can try out some snowshoes I got two years ago. There's enough snow left on a trail where I can go but not enough to traipse through the swamp.
Looks like 33 will be our high for the day. Not much thawing except where the sun hits. We thought we were going to lose the sun but it is bright out there again.
