We are going down to 10 tonight and tomorrow night. Keeping a nice fire going for sure. Still using small stuff and uglies, looking like it may be nearly January before the real stacks get broached. That would make me very happy.
We were at 15 degrees this morning, we've been burning Cherry which we'll continue. I'll be taking the ashes from the wood stove out today so we're burning the pellet stove this morning.
Looking like a warm Dec here also sherwood. http://www.accuweather.com/en/ca/kingston/k7k/december-weather/49556
Possibly going down to 5 tonight. The temps were cold here today and the wind was not too strong, but dam cold!
30º outside 74º in here, 5 smallish splits of silver maple burning this evening. Will load up with some cherry and ash for the overnight about 11, weatherbro calling for low 20's
Going down to 4 with a realfeel of-17 tonight, just burning down some Cherry, I should be loading up around 11 again for the overnight burn. It's 71 upstairs and the basement at 79, it looks like we'll stick with the Cherry through December unless the forecast for the rest of the month changes.
I haven't burnt much cherry this year, just a piece mixed in here and there. I put a medium size load of all cherry in this morning and man did the cat get to glowing on that load. Real crisp morning with very little wind, 10 hours later I had to burn down a few coals. I think all the stars were just lined up right.....
27º on the back porch with Ash and Pine gasifying in the boiler. Snowing and blowing. Wife is really happy, and the kids will be really happy when they wake up. Schools closed today all around because of Nor'easter. Not sure why the wife didn't get out of bed. Time to get ready to go to work.
20 degrees out, 70 in the stove room this morning after the overnight burn; one maple log about 6 inch diameter , 2 maple branches about 2 inch diameter, and the balance maple uglies, and splinters from the splitter. Still have blue flames and lots of coals left, one chunk of wood. Stovepipe just over 400 internal temp, stovetop 320, still putting out nice heat. Was 74 in here when I got up at 5 AM. Took the dog for a walk, so had the sliding glass door open twice, which probably helped bring the temp down those few degrees. Will load up for the day in an hour or so, more sugar maple odds and ends.
30 this morning. All the mega hours I've been working lately , Ive been falling asleep 7-8ish without putting an overnite load in the furnace. Was 63 in house this morning at 4:30. Put in a halfload a ran it wide open for 30 min. to get temp up in house. Just now put in a couple slabs and about 15lb of coal . That should get through the day into this evening. With a forced draft furnace , bituminous coal does well on the warmer day because the thermostat gives it the air it needs when called for. Otherwise it sits there and glows a little making just enough heat to kick the blower on for a couple minutes 3 or 4 times an hour. Me likey.
11 degrees here this morning. Mixed diet of maple, ash and some white birch in Ole' Betty. Loaded her up last night @ 9 and had a really great coal bed @ 7 this morning. All id good.
Stayed around the freezing mark all night. Put in 11 small-medium Oak splits last night around 11 and the house was at almost 69 this morning. Plenty of coals this a.m. to keep the house temp up for a bit. We're getting a warmup (if the weather forecast doesn't change) for the next several days, so I'm hoping the shed quits emptying quite so fast. Gone through about 1.5 cords since mid-Sept. so far.
