It is amazing that regularly you are much colder than almost all of Alaska. Those temperatures are brutal, especially when they keep on coming after you over and over. +35 is much better!
After cutting some wood yesterday on bare ground (was terrific!) we woke up this morning to a bunch of ice and sleet (nasty). Fortunately the eaves are dripping. Possibly some more ice coming then rain. Supposed to be rather warm tomorrow too. Hopefully this crap will all melt.
I really goofed this morning. Stove didn't have much for coals so just out of habit I put wood in. Wow! It surely did not take long for the temperature to go wild in here. Temp reached 90! Yes, that is a bit too hot even for me. Probably about like it got that one time during our GTG when we roasted people out.
Where I am, we've had only 3 really cold days all winter. I looked at the long-range forecast for Feb and March, and I don't see any deep cold returning, just 30's and 40's for highs, etc. etc. Is this it? I'm no fan of bitter cold, but I'm kind of bummed that I can't burn more wood. Kind of defeats the purpose of compulsive wood hording. Existential crisis...
Thanks BigBlueLogOX interesting video and a neat looking tool. Ill head over to the thread created for this discussion and check things out.
I think it's just a combination of the Pacific Ocean moderating the weather in the west, the Rockies, jet stream strength, and apparently somehow the polar vortex spinning off into odd places. We are quite cold for our latitude though on any given year. We're cold like Winnipeg "thinks" they're cold. That's one of the reasons I like looking at weather in various places and seeing how much heat degree day units they have per month. While not a perfect system (doesn't count wind and can't know how insulated your home is) it tells you a lot.
Its raining again...burning oak for the sake of it. Just to cheer everyone up, even though a little too dry: Summer 2018.
We finally got some rain here last night, a big thunderstorm rolled across the state. It’s been 7 or 8 weeks since we had any significant rain. 68F this morning, forecast to hit 85F it’s going to be humid today! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I haven’t heard any news yet but it has to help. Unfortunately when big fires get going in the mountains it takes a lot to put them out. The other thing is the lightning starts new fires which can smoulder until the next hot and windy day when they breakout and become a real problem. Hopefully we got enough rain to stop that this time. In the 24 hours up to late Monday the Bureau of Meteorology recorded some 18,000 lightning strikes across Victoria. with no rain that’s just scary! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have 2 of the 12” huskies and one Oregon with these tongs, it is way better than picking up off the ground. The LogOx is longer giving more options. I have found the limits of diameter for log tongs. The logox has such a good bite it holds n to the large diameter logs. The other thing I like is the logox holds the round like a can’t hook. Allowing my arm to be in a more natural vertical position, compared to tongs that centers the handle over the rounds. Resutling in the arm being 10 degrees or more from vertical. Allowing less effort and a better neutral position with the weight of the round closer to center mass.
41*- 70*....burnin some more gingko....50's tomorrow n friday then 30's.....fightin with centurylink all mornin.
29* real feel of 22* heavy sleet. 76* ist. Nother crap ride to work tomorrow. Horkn ,Screwloose ya'll have the same crud?
No crud yet here. It will be soon though. Crud through 6pm tomorrow. We may get 2-4" of actual snow though . Today's nothing commute was pretty uneventful, considering the craziness last night. Thunder pellets fell. We even saw a few lightning bolts. I welcome a little snow though. I can haul a fair amount of wood from the woods then.
31F down from 32. East wind still blowing, got ice on the trees still, but no real issues today. Supposed to warm up tomorrow then drop Friday & snow. Saturday's supposed to be 20's & some sun, so off to the fence rows! I'm tired of rain & dreary. Oak in the boiler.
