I like seeing your daylight creep up like that. For us close to the border in BC we have a sunrise of 8:28 am and sunset of 5:12 pm. so its not quite as exciting since we dont get the dark like you do up north. I still enjoy the longer days when they come though.
Easily staying warm inside. We hardly used any heating oil so far this season (last year 228 liters at this time, this year, probably 65 liters ballpark), so no worries about running the furnace and a fire. I don't plan to hit April with much heating oil left, so it will be a toasty late season! Poor little stove just can't keep up to this kind of weather by itself though, even with the pedal to the floor. No sense pushing it too hard, as I'll just coal up anyways.
12*F just started to snow we are in the 14" - 20" area of the weather map just loaded up the OWB with another smorgasbord of hardwood. 71* in the house. Sounds like tomorrow will be a busy day.
Barely warmed up at all today. Thermometer on the back porch reads -8 right now. I’m burning lots of Pine away today because I can feed the Wood Gun every two or three hours. Today I brought enough hardwood and softwood in to keep us warm for three or four days easy even in these colder temps. Snow is coming down pretty hard now. They say 5-8 tonight and 3-5 tomorrow. I’m hoping we don’t get that much. But I’m ready for it if we do. Picked up 10 more gallons of gas for generator today and tractor is good with diesel.
Got about 4" here from the "storm". Nasty E wind earlier though & 0 to 10 above windchill. Cut in the fence rows till about 2:00 & called it good. 15F now with a windchill of -3. Parking lot is plowed, wood is dumped & stuff put away. I'll load the boiler later tonight to ensure good temps overnight. Put a little extra in about 3:00 to stretch it till 9:00. First time I've loaded oftener than 12hrs. Still haven't kicked on the second stat in the shop. Holding 70 even with the wind.
29ºF and light snow flurries. Burned some (Blue) Spruce this afternoon. I'm not impressed. Burning up some red oak round wood that didn't fare well in an uncovered stack. Some is soft. This is earlier, some nice red oak splits on top of a deep bed of morning wood (eastern white pine) coals:
20 here going down to 6 tonight. Sugar maple and red oak in the IS. The wind is howling! Ended up with 4” or so of snow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
26 here, cruised the day on coals and a few pine splits. Brought in a little extra to get through the flurries. Snow starting now, anywhere between 10" -24" depending on which guessers you want to believe.
Snow and ice arrived. Ground is covered now and a travel advisory issued for the county Loading the furnace in a bit, then having a beverage of some sort. Temp is about 22 and dropping.
We've got a big cold snap coming. It's been a relatively warm winter so far, with little snow. Well, today we got 3" of snow, and more to come early this week. And cold. This Friday and next weekend ugg . I'll be burning red oak, hickory, ironwood, and all sorts of better wood.
This is starting to look more like Winter in West Michigan. Few inches of lake effect on a regular basis. Might get some skidding done yet. 12F WC of O & clearing up. Oak & Ash in the boiler.
