Morning started out at around 25º and had a high of 32º. Reloaded this morning with some punky/good oak mix and then all good red oak. I'll be burning red oak all season "'cause that's all I gots!"

Snowed a little last night, then awoke to 17 this a.m., and about 6" of snow. House was just under 66, so I checked the stove and it had a lot of coals left, then I added a couple splits to try burning those down.
Snowed all day and I think we now have about a foot of the white stuff.
Tractor wouldn't start until I put the charger on it for a minute, and I haven't had time to pull the mowing deck off or put the plow on, so had to do that.
Did a little plowing, but the snow was coming down so hard I stopped for a bit. Went back out and there was another 3" where I already plowed. Crazy.
Looked like a dang snowman when I was done.
I did not at all expect this.
I'll go back after it again tomorrow.
    Supposed to hit 9 tonight.

Temps much better today, but the wind is stealing my heat :zip:

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 pm MST this evening.

    • Timing: strong west to northwest winds decrease this evening.
    • Winds: sustained west to northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts 55 to 65 mph.
    • Impacts: high profile vehicles and light weight trailers will be susceptible to strong and sudden wind gusts. High Profile vehicles may lose control when encountering strong winds and may be at risk of blow over.

Not so bad,.....I turned on the direct vent in the laundry room (back of the house), and haven't needed much wood to keep the front of the house warm.:dancer:
Almost 74 in here right now.:fire:
I may have a new strategy on my hands...........

So, I don't really like that the wind is stealing your heat.......that's bad juju.
    Noticed the same here yesterday.

It's a DV heater.....intake and exhaust in the same hole in the wall. I don't think it's very efficient, but it heats the back bedroom, laundry room, and kitchen very well on the lowest setting. Natural gas fired.
Some of the heat migrates to the front too, which keeps wood use down in the real cold temps.
Used it last year about 10 times (overnight only) in each of the coldest months and the gas bill only went up about $25/month. Made me happy and warm.

Not from what I can tell so far, but we started burning about 2 weeks sooner than normal. I'll be through the November wood before the end of the month too.
I'm still trying to find the primary air sweet spot for overnight loads.
I guess my comment was unclear on that. I meant the wood use has gone down a little after I turned on the DV heater. Mah bad.
Any words of wisdom on how to burn the stove would be great.

Dipped down into the mid teens last night. Stove running on oak. Won't get above freezing today so I hope the house is still warm after work.

About 2f here right now, we are supposed to get 4" of snow this afternoon and over night. Still feeding Ole'Betty a mixed diet. Temps are supposed to moderate on the week end.

I have about 18º F on the back porch, Ash and Pine burning away in the Gasifier.

rottiman, you went down to 2ºF where you are? That is quite a difference from here in that little distance.

15 degrees and some wind. Last night it was blowing pretty good. Loading another load of pine. House was sitting at 70 this morning with last nights load of the same thing. I thought this pine was supposed to be for shoulder season lol

The Pine heats my boiler up just fine as well Cert. Burns up a little quicker, but still keeps us warm. It is time for me to clean the boiler again tonight.

We finally broke 32 yesterday afternoon... A little fire to ignite the coals lastnight. Back to burning odds and ends for a while. 35 here currently. Well the NC30 got to stretch her legs a bit for a week. So much easier when the temps are like they where. I was quite impressed with the 12 hrs of heat I was getting out of her though. I keep forgetting that its not the NC13 when I'd have to rush home from work after 9 hrs or so... Habits are hard to break...

15F in Pittsburgh, and I just shoveled out the ashes and started a load that's mostly black locust. Not a typical November day.
