Current temp 18°F heading up to 30°F for a high with up to 6"expected this evening through noon tomorrow. Will make for some slick roads tonight for new year's eve! Burning a mix of maple, aspen, and birch.
Still in the box, there are a few of the members here that have the exact grinder and are helping me out.
It's a late March day here. Upper 40's, rain, fog, and mud as far as the eye can see. Boiler has a good bed of hedge coals, enough to make it though to this evening.
She's a brisk one out there this morning! Last day of the year, and coldest temp of the burning season so far.
Most of the time when a polar vortex affects us it is later in the winter and then seems to just hang on a long time. So if it does happen, I'd expect it probably more in February or very late January. Until then and if it doesn't happen, I will enjoy this weather even if we have to contend with some mud once in a while.
Yesterday I cut up a couple ash and an elm. Got about half the logs hauled out. Mud was not a problem although it was getting a bit greasy in spots. This morning it has been trying to rain. Most of it is breaking up just before it gets to us. That is really quite common for this area.
With all the rain and warm weather, I sure don't envy all of you having mud season all the time. I really enjoy the frozen ground and snow to keep things clean. Tough to work in.
We are holding at 32 but should get warmer. Rain is starting to fall come in. They are saying under an inch. So the mud gets deeper. Hasn't had time to dry out.
Low of 21.6 °F last night. They were calling for snow and I said "I'll believe it when I see it." Up in the bucket I saw the storm coming over the southern mountains and as it began to snow I saw the snow was sticking to the road immediately, no melt off at all. Got down quick and cleaned up the work area but within 20 minutes almost an inch was on the road. Got the truck back to the shop and headed home. It's still coming down with 6 inches of snow on the upstairs back deck. The woodstove is a wonderful thing today! Happy New Year Everyone!
Windy with some fine snow blowing in making driving and visibility poor. Plows are out but only for a showing. I think they're waiting form the main event to get them all out on the roads.
Thanks! Unfortunately I think we're screwed due to climate change. Better start saving up for retirement in the mountains if I want regular snow in the winter
High of 23 F on the back deck, low this morning of 11 F. Been snowing since 8 w/ 5 " so far. Dry pine doing its thing in the Endeavor.
