Wunderground a few miles away says 36.7° Reading here in the shade: 40.2° Ran the first full load (oak, mulberry) in the 30 last night, plenty of coals to relight this morning. Just loaded a bit of Oak, Mulberry and Maple.
Similar burn times for me. Though if I load my stove fully I can have enough coals in the AM to get a new fire going. What do you have? I have an Avalon, not sure if it is a Rainier or 990. Came with the house. At least 12 years old as far as I can tell. I'm thankful for it. I really wouldn't have known about inserts or started my wood addiction if it wasn't already installed when I moved in a few years ago!
I have a little pleasant hearth 1800. Had a decent amount of coals left this morning so it was easy enough to start.
Will be building my first fire of the season in the old Charmaster tonight. Have some "soft" hybrid poplar and other small "runts" of good stuff to burn up first before I get into my good hardwoods later in the winter.
Same old feeding of Pine & Hemlock, it's in the 30's during the day and at night we're dropping in the mid 20's, 76 in the basement with the living room upstairs at 72.
41f cold wind no sun and rain.. Just right to suck lol. Got the stove at 500f with a box full of ash right now. This morning we ran propellets in or pellet stove.
Just a crappy day weather-wise here. Hung right around the freezing mark and has been snowing since noon. Just a dusting of wet snow on the unfrozen ground but there is a miserably damp SE wind that chills you to the bone. Ole' Betty has been chugging along all day @ 500 running on a diet of ash and white birch and the house is a comfortable 72. God I love wood heat.
Finally got the basement done today. Still some small odds and ends to attend to but overall it's finally done! When we bought the house it was this room that swayed us over the others.. Did a little stacking today and mowed the leaves off the lawn with the bagger while freezing my arse off.. Little mix of ash and maple keeping it warm tonight!
We'll pushing in some better stuff for the colder nights coming, dead elm and some maple that's been up for over a year, the maple is two year old chit that we had stacked in the woods.
Coming up on my first ash shoveling. Still burning shorts, uglies and snot. Mostly oak with some hickory, black birch, Norway maple, beech and ash coming out of the pile. No cherry yet but I know its in there. And it's only 95 degrees colder in Vostok than it is here.
Just about 33º on my back porch this morning. Ash and Pine gasifying in the boiler and the house is comfortable. Looks like a slight breeze outside with some sun and clouds. Looks like it should be a good day weather wise. Sun and clouds and a high of 40º or so.
42 here, with some uglies in the stove. Should have loaded up lastnight, but didn't. A bit chilly in the house this morn, however good sleeping temp.
Chvymn99. Where do you live? Roughly? What type of stove do you heat with? What type of wood? Got any pics of it with a fire going?
25 here this morning. Sunny now but supposed to snow later this afternoon. Put a half load in Ole' Betty last night @ 9. Good bed of coals in er @ 7 this a.m. Stirred er up and threw in a couple of maple splits and away she goes again.
