34ish outside. Rain/almost snow. Burning Ash put basement at 82. Boiler and tank at 185. Bed time, I'm beat.
Oak in stove. Mix of white and red. Some may think I'm crazy for burning that here in shoulder season. Well thats 90% of what I cut!!! Anyway its 58 now and on its way to a low of 39 I think.
Ash and Spruce burning in the boiler. One thermometer says 38º and the other says 34º. I believe the 38º is probably closer. Raining. I won't be cutting any wood today I guess. Looks like I will be working in the garage cleaning and maybe building something.
30 Degrees this morning and a nice layer of frost... Got some walnut started and now about to put some mulberry and locust to carry the load...
I finally broke down last night and fired up the boiler for the first time this fall. It was only 52°, but it was windy and rainy and felt much colder. Even with the thermostat kept at 69° in the house, it felt much more cozy last night than the heat pump had been doing!
Low 30's . Maple and a smattering of beech. Lil shoulder stove shines at these temps. Forecasted temps for the "" Vortex" not much different than today. Big guns will have to wait.
Never got much out of the 30's today 'round here. First time this season I filled the stove pert near full. 75º in the living room at the top of the steps above the stove room. Just about everything I did today for work was outside and I am sure glad I threw the winter coat in the truck this morning, almost wish I would have put on the thermal skivies, wind was pretty strong.
Barely broke 40 degrees here today, but I'm still running mostly poplar. Maybe a couple splits of the soft maple if the house is getting chilly; any more than that and it's time to crack a window!
Just 38f out now and the stove is burning ugly chunks of every species known hereabouts. Ash, maple, oak, mullberry, pine and BL. I also like to mix 2 or 3 kinds of cereal in the bowl, too.
I just did that the other day. Kids wanted cereal for breakfast so I let them have the sugary stuff. Then I joined them and had a box of Lucky Charms I needed to finish. So I put that in first and then put Peanut Butter Captain Crunch on top! Not to shabby. It is about 29º here this morning and it is the first night I left the boiler on overnight. I filled it almost 3/4 full last night with Pine, Spruce, and some big splits of Ash. All is well.
34º this morning, up to 38º now. Just put a 1/2 load of beech and ash in the Buckster. 10 hr load from last night could have went at least another hour but the farthest rooms from the stove were runnin around 68º "got wood, burn wood"
I can't get anywhere near those burn times. My stove is really small but even with the air choked down I only get about 4 hours. I'll try to pack it a little tighter tonight with some maple and mulberry to see if I can do a little better. I open the air up for about 15 minutes to get it all rolling before I cut the air - is that the way to do it? I get a little smoke on a reload but even with the air cut back I get almost none. Little thing tosses some heat though.
