Wow. That is pretty cold for where you are this time of year. I use to live near Roanoke many years ago. And work in an area called Amherst. Nice area!
Got the gasser going tonight 175° burning ash 42° and windy outside. Voted then went for tacos and beer 170° and still full of wood when we came home.
45º here this morning. Wow. I have some Ash and Spruce burning in the Gasification boiler for showers and a little heat from the bottom of the house up.
Burning some hedge and oak...did a half load last night and it was still going strong this AM. Wood consumption compared to last year is way down...so far.
I've had a few fires already this season as the temps dipped into the low 30's at night. I've only lit the upstairs stove so far which is an older Lopi Answer that sits right in the living room. To keep the temps in there reasonable I've only been burning hardwood slabs. They're easy to re-light if it goes out and they still don't burn outrageously quick.
No fire yesterday ,stayed 68 inside all day 59 outside , 63 in the house this morning ,lit up some shorty's and chunks of ash
Welcome aboard FHC Sam My daughter has a lopi answer, they only use it once in awhile it was in the house when they bought it. The air control is very hard to move in and out, just wondering if you have that problem at all. It may be due to the fact that they don't use it much, anyway I'm not sure how I can fix it. Anybody else got any ideas how to fix it?
I'm not a fan of the air control as it is hard to move in and out even with plenty of use. Combine that with the fact that it's almost impossible to tell someone else where to set it at other than "pull it all the way out" or "push it all the way in" since the throw is so short and there's not a good way to mark the handle. I've been toying with changing it to a side lever type, attached to the push-pull, so I can mark different settings for the wife and children.
I put marks on my air control rod not long after I started burning with my Lopi Republic 1750. I took a 3 sided file and filed in fine lines in the rod on one side and then filled in the grooves with a fine line white paint stick It's been a year now and they don't ware off. The first mark by the stove is the half way point ,the last one toward the end of the rod is fully closed. What's up with the answer ? the control seems backwards ,push in for more air ,pull out for less ?
That seems like a great solution to the question of where is the stove set. The only downside I can see is that it's right down under the ashtray on my stove but that's not horrible either. You're right, the Answer is backwards then, all the way out is no/low air and all the way in is full air.
It was warm yesterday and then cooled down a bit last night. Right at 38º this morning. Some Ash and Spruce going in the boiler. Looks like some cooler temps to come in this weekend.
My quad is the same way, I commented to the dealer when it was installed. His answer was to think of it as a gas pedal and all my conceptual misconceptions were solved.
