Hemlock, White Pine and some big tooth Aspen, it looks like we'll get another week of this same weather so we'll keepon burning the shoulder season wood.

It would be nice to burn this wood until November 15 if not longer, we had 1.83 cord (not face) of shoulder season ready for this year.

Straight up hard maple. This small Englander has to run wide open to keep up when it gets in the teens/20's. Another month or better before I fire the big guns.

    Thanks!

It's warming up here today, already 47. I made the mistake of putting a 1/2 load in this morning about about 10am. It's boiling in here, and I have a window open. It was 41 this morning and windy, so I thought it was going to stay cold.. Burning a mix bag of "tree of heaven", pine and some other weird un-recognizable light woods.

I'm pretty much exactly the same off as Machria. 41 this AM, warm in the house. Haven't had to burn yet this season; did a test run last week and got a funny smell coming off the stove. So, I figured I'd give a good hard fire and burn off whatever it was that got spilled on the stove sometime during the last 6 months out of use. Opened the window and let 'er rip with pine and old cedar. Cleared it right up. This morning I couldn't resist temptation and fired it up again. Even though I throttled it all the way down, I was way hot in here after I got back from Costco. So now Ive got the house doors are open, a good fall breeze flowing through and I'm watching a really slow bed of pine coals.. Life is good!

Put a few small pcs in at 7 this morning. House is sitting at 76º right now but it's supposed to go down to 28º tonight so I guess I'll either wait till bed time to fire up or let the NG boiler do the work tonight. Supposed to hit mid 50s tomorrow......that's the hard thing about this time of year.

The next couple weeks are going to be hard. Too warm for a fire but too cold to not have a fire.

Oh man. Just got back from my brother's house. We brought a few cold beers, fresh Italian bread from the backery, and pie and whipped cream for deseert. He cooked steaks and portabella mushrooms on the grill with Montreal seasoning and baked potatoes in the oven. About 33º
