Thanks for the lesson, I never realized that. Here are a couple of links, you can see what they forecast for your state from the first link. http://www.liveweatherblogs.com/index.php/long-range-forecasts/winter-2014-2015-by-state http://liveweatherblogs.com/index.p...er-buffalo-watertown-utica-yonkers?groupid=40
Dave, I tried to answer this yesterday but we lost the Internet as I was typing. So, better late than never. Every year we noticed lots of maples turning in early August along M-32 both east and west of Gaylord. Another area was around Posen and Lachine. But soo the rest will catch up. Oh, along I-75 near the bridge every year there are lots of red leaves. It is normal for maple and more so if it is a wet area. And yes, it was pretty cool this morning and will be more so tomorrow morning. At 70 this afternoon it feels much cooler because of that wind. This morning around 6:30 I was on the atv and thinking maybe I should put the windshield on! I wore gloves.
The animals and vegetation give signs of future weather to come. They can predict better than our meteorologists.
Dennis, I just don't remember the Maples turning quite this early, but as I've said.......my sometimers kicks in a lot. It was 42 this morning when I went for a walk with Casper.
It was 44 here when I went out this morning. As for the trees turning, it is not unusual at all. Even now, we're seeing a lot of yellow showing. Sometimes the cottonwood will turn all yellow before much else is turning but usually it is the soft maples that will turn early and they are noticed more because of the red.
We've had a ton of baby toads all over. So many, that 1 jumps in the yard every 2 steps I take. Mowing the lawn...... I just can't. We've had them before, but never this many. (Sorry, I doubt it has anything to do with the weather.)
it was like that here last year to, they were all over the place, I had never seen it like that before
Cool here, also wet. August used to be one of my favorite months, but this one is like May or June. Saw some burning bushes starting to turn. Birds really keeping at the feeder. Lots of yellow finches. Also some red cardinals.
80 here today, then severe t/s warnings(not much rain, lots of lightning)got 2 hailstorms, heavy hail to the n-ne,temps dropped to 55,just another day in mt!6-10 years ago was thinking about installing a swamp cooler, not so much now.Winters have been milder, but summers have been colder
badbob, are you in W/Montana? My people are in the east- (Miles City), still complaining about flies.
I am "on" bozeman pass.Quinn creek road. The valleys on either side of me have warm weather,I get the snow.Miles city is "middle of nowhere?",might as well say ND?Miles city will have bad flies for at least 4-5 more weeks!
I started researching weather from the late 1800's and early 1900's as part of my genealogy interests. My GGgrandfather lived through record high and low temps, and record rain and droughts that still hold today. I think the weather the last 20 years has been increasingly extreme from my experience, but I also know it did the same over 100 years ago too.... Hoping we have enough pellets and wood if its another early harsh winter
It's been getting down into the low 50s the past few nights. Yesterday we didn't even crack 70 for a high. Today we seem to be warming up a bit. Last couple of nights I've been smelling wood being burned in someone's stove or fireplace. Too early by a couple weeks to have that happen in these parts. This year our apple and Cherry trees did not bloom. Last year was very hard on the trees around here. Most of the bushes on the north side of the house had damage from last winter. No trees dropping leaves or turning like they did last year. Can't figure out what that means for this winter, but I can say it's been much cooler overall this summer. Time to cover stacks and clean out the stove. It'll be Fall before we know it.
And everything else we read says that cold has nothing to do with the changing of color in the leaf; it is the amount of daylight. I've said it many times but in MI it is very common to start seeing some change in leaf even in July but especially after August 15. Just the last couple of days we're seeing one of our maples turning. It was green and suddenly it has lots of red.
I remember an early snowstorm 3 yrs ago, the end of Oct, trees still had leaves, esp the oaks, and man did that snow bend trees & break branches!
