    Loon, glad to hear you're safe. That stuff happens, best defense is a clear escape route. I'm not afraid to run from a tree when stuff goes bad. I figure saws, gear, etc. are replaceable. You're not. One bad thing can lead to a cascade failure sometimes, glad this didn't. Get even with the tree & burn it. LOL

    Hey Dave, do you run a mark around bigger trees where you want to hit with the back cut? As Dennis said, if the hinge is solid, just cut the new notch & go again. I'll sometimes use a real steep back cut to avoid a potential back ward fall as well, leaves room for wedges on smaller trees without getting in the way of the bar. A C

    Throw ball and set a line high... Pretension the line,, then that allows for bigger hinge wood to control the tree... When in doubt I rope them out! Sugar Maples with heart rot will really do their own thing.. Glad your OK.. Things like that make for great lessons as long as no one was hurt and nothing was damaged..
