I’ve never, ever had those in my wood stoves.

I used to get them in my pellet stove when I’d burn cheap pellets. Since I started buying only premium pellets, I have not had a single one.

He had posted pics a while back of the ones from his stove. Caught in a grate i think.

I recall vividly. Which is why I mentioned it.

I had 1 shorty elm piece in my stove last week and a few uglies of box elder. Yep. A small clinker already.

I get clinkers from elm more than any other species...but I have seen it happen with oak, ash, and certainly box elder too...I've never found anything in common with the wood that does vs doesn't make clinkers, as far as MC or bark/no bark...just seems to depend on where the tree grew IMO...

I burn lots of elm and get plenty of clinkers they don’t bother me, I just scoop em out with the ashes. I’ll try to pay attention this season and see if I can find any patterns or plausible theories

I have maybe 1 cord of elm left. They don't bother me either. I was just curious, as with anything that has to do with firewood. My stove does not have grates, and I always leave at least 1 inch of ash in, so I have no problem with them clogging the grates, or bonding to the firebrick.
