My wife demanded a chainsaw she could run in emergencies when I'm not around. She a pretty big tomboy, but had a hard time starting my MS260 without deco valve. I got her a MS250 CBE. She loves it. It's super easy for her to start and she's plenty strong enough to control it once it's running. All-in-all a perfect saw for her needs. However, I may be transferring her over to my MS261CM. Even easier to start than the 250... Time will tell.
I have one... first saw actually. Absolutely love it as it's light and damm reliable. The one I have is with the easy start...sometimes that can give me trouble but not frequently. I've cut several years worth of firewood with that saw.
I think I have one here, if you don't have a lead on one by Wednesday let me know. I have a crate of small Stihl parts buried deep in the corner of my garage, but lots of stuff needs to be moved to get to it.
I love the stihl easy start system. Best I have seen out there so far. Anyone with injures or getting old or types that cant pull a regular saw over. Great idea. I messed with one just pulling the rope out a inch or so at a time till it wound up and started. Just to cool for those in need.
EZ 2 maybe less effort, but Mtronic is "simpler." It a trade off. FWIW I printed up the starting sequences for all my small engine machines. Even I forget sometimes since almost everyone is slightly different
Will do Gary.. 1st, remove the muffler from the saw. 2nd, remove the screw and screen. 3rd, using a Dremel and a carbide bit, open that stock opening up as large as possible. If the screen isn't of importance? You can go pretty big. But doubling that stock hole will do the saw good. Then clean the muffler with compressed air and/or rinse the muffler out with warm soapy water. I normally use compressed air, then warm soapy water, then air..
WOW, I haven't seen or heard about these.. what models do the easy starts come on? My dad has had all kinds of medical issues over the last few years and just can't pull his 034av over fast enough anymore. I bought him an electric one for around the house, but the cord gets in the way and there isn't always power in the woods... This might be perfect for him
Great thread Brian, I agree whole heartedly (I know we have talked about these saws before). IMO, this series of saw was one of the best values Stihl ever made. Very capable saw in the right hands!
I'm the one who has these three saws. I can assure you they all run just like the video in the first post. They have all been muffler modded and the air filters have been replaced with mesh filters as well as they all have the Walbro WT 215 carbs. The new carbs are only $22.50 from Still. The Stihl .325" X .063" X 16" RS really cuts and has large chisel cutters for .325 chain.
Used to be the 250 was the biggest cc. I dont know with the new. It is nice Steve for folks needing it. http://www.stihlusa.com/products/technology/easy2start/
Cut4fun had a Easy Start at his house. I wasn't aware of their characteristics. I have some MS 250/025's and they are hard enough to pull. So I put my foot on the bottom of the rear handle and jerked the cord all the way out like it wasn't connected . . . Nothing happened . . . And then the saw started. They pull that easy.
The MS291 is now coming with that system which might be a good choice if he doesn't want to drop down in capability from his 034AV. Other models that have it (as an option) include the MS180, MS210, MS230, MS250 and for new saws I think the MS181, MS211 have it as std. equip. and it's available on the MS251 as well.
Gonna be a day or so on the muffler pics guys. I didn't get it done tonight and I won't be in the shop much tomorrow.
can you add it to any MS250? that's really about all the saw he needs.. When my uncle died I wanted dad to have a saw and it was either an 046 or the 034. he was afraid of the 046 lol. He used the 034 once, rocked the chain and then couldn't start it the next time after all his surgeries.... I think he gave it to my brother or was going to anyway before he disappeared up in michigan with some broad. it will be awhile before dad is back to health to run a saw anyways.
