    I've got an 85 year old neighbor that hand splits his wood. About 8 years ago, I bought a log splitter from my sister, just because she was selling it, and because I had my neighbor in mind. I convinced myself he would make good use of it. I've offered it at least 50 times since I've had it, and he has refused every time... until last week. He came into a batch of wood that had about 15 rounds of elm in it, he finally gave in and asked me if he could use it. :rofl: :lol:

    And entertaining it is.

    I burn a lot of elm only because it is one of the few hard woods around here that is worth anything.
    I do not split it and cut it all.

    Yep. Elm needs hydraulics. Elm without hydros = :wacky::headbang::hair:

    Since we let the stove go out this am with the 70° weather today, I dug out my clinker collection from that 1 decent sized split of elm since I cleaned the stove.

    I had some good ones this year from elm. They almost looked like melted glass bottles in a camp fire pit.
