Yeah they definitely aren't light, as my body hates me more I will probably have to do the same Yeah, agree , I normally wouldn't split that size, Last year did not gone according to any plan and unfortunately this is going right to the boiler, hate burning this wet of wood, lose a ton of heat burning the moisture out of it extra stove cleaning but it is what it is this year and on to hopefully better preparedness next year. It is surprising how many there is in the area, it is a very popular stove around here.
Woops, that was meant to say "When I got my OWB" Still got it, still our only heat source! Northern Wisconsin, temps definitely get down there. The cold is so far this winter with wind chill has been negative 34 F
I (we) moved from the house that had the OWB but left the OWB at the house...........so no, we don't have an OWB any longer. I installed a kuuma vapor fire 100 to replace the wood furnace that was in the home I purchased. No regrets as it really does sip firewood! The move was less than an hour away and in the same area. We used to live in a low spot of a river valley; now we are lakeside.
yooperdave What do you have for back up heat if you should be gone for a few days in the dead of winter?
LP forced air furnace. The wood furnace is tied into the same ductwork with backdraft dampers installed to isolate either the LP or the wood furnace.....whichever one is being used. As of buying this place, we have not had to take off for a few days during the winter months. But, you never know-right? With the old place, I would get someone to stop by once every day or two (depending on temperatures) and fire up the OWB. That only happened once. We also had a NAT gas forced air furnace in that house. We like staying home in the winter.
Well, had a little shorter day at work today, so got home did a couple things and then grabbed the saw and went to the pile. Was a little chilly today but a few layers and some work and it didn't feel bad at all. Part way though today. And how I ended the day. Got 2 rounds left to split, misses was getting done with work and i had a marinated pork loin, baby reds and carrots to get in the oven. Little war wound from splitting wood on Saturday
