The next phase of the process is mostly done. Everything is broken apart and ready to be split horizontally (I’m no fan of squatting down to ground level for hours at a time to split wood) Some more splits from Sunday waiting to be stacked: The gist of things as they are today:
Thanks, I’ll be happy when it’s all finally put away I’ve had good splitting oak and not so good stuff, and this was somewhere in between. I struggled trying to bust the rounds apart with the maul, but thankfully hydraulics prevailed.
I’m trying to get all this splitting and stacking done while it’s still cool outside. I’ve been staring at this for too many months now. What I did between yesterday and today: What’s left to split:
Slowly making progress with the stacking from this score. 4 rows in the shed; each row is 8 feet long tapering from 6 to 5 feet high front to back. One long pile on the left from the past couple days that I haven’t measured yet. The shorter pile on the right is exactly 2/3 cord. What’s left to deal with. Splits on the ground and quarters to process and put away. I’m sprinting to get this buttoned up this week. Enough is enough.
Another load of chips from ChipDrop today. This’ll get dispersed in the same areas as last year, for weed control and to help build up the soil. Red maple and black birch chips this time.
Our pool is 84 degrees. It was too cold to get into 2 weeks ago. Too warm now. Cooler temps for a few days should help.
This spring was so wet and cold that I didn't even bother getting my pool up until yesterday when it was blazing hot. It finished filling up at about 11:30 last night and when I got in it this morning the water temp was already in the mid 70s.
I uncovered the pool early, allowing rain to raise the water to operating level. I had to run the hose maybe a half hour. We had it up and running the third week in May, but it was too cold until last week to get in.
That load showed up 5 minutes before I left for work. I'm going to have to wheelbarrow all of it so I'm guessing a 4+ hour job.
