I found pics of past models of the same coop and it had a more opened up entrance to the boxes, so I was just curious. I guess I'll find out once my hens start laying and if the eggs are everywhere but the boxes.

My daughter (17) just got several more chickens. Unfortunately, one is a silkie rooster. One is limping and looks really old. The others are fine, but we are only allowed a few chickens with NO roosters. Our neighbor gifted us his large shed that we took apart yesterday and put back together. She is on her spring break this week and is currently cutting in a chicken door. Then onto building a roosting platform and nest boxes....

    Why are silkies unfortunate? Temperament?

I'm guessing unfortunate because he said they can't have roosters, only hens. Thats the rule of my town too. Kinda lame but I do understand it here in the suburbs. Actually the town says no roosters unless you're on 5+ acres.

Pretty sure one of my Mystic Maran chicks is a male. It looks bigger than the others and has a big white spot on his head which supposedly only males have.

I kinda of like that one... Opening from outside to collect the eggs? You can train them with plastic easter eggs ... or I see now that they have more real'er looking fake eggs at our feed store...

It only crowed a little bit once.... My daughter really wants a rooster, but we will see. We are only allowed 4 chickens, no roosters. Our neighbor is "letting us raise their chickens" for them. That makes 8. One hasn't laid an egg in months. One is a rooster, that only leaves 6 layers...

I used his golf balls. Funny they've all started using one at the moment.

My chicks moved into their "teenage home"... the plastic crate was getting too small for them.
