Curious…Just went to the store for chicken feed. How much are you all paying for your feed? $ and lbs of bag…

$34 for the 50 lb bag
$26 for the 40 lb bag

this is for the 16% protein mix

I don't know what our local feed store is now but Murdoch's is $22 for 50# on pellets 20% protein.

That emoji was my expression... I bought 3 bags back in December when my barrel was real low, so I figured I'd top off the barrel... (I went back on the search and found that back in July when the initial price was $20 dollars for this bag...) I've been buying from this guy for ever... Dog food and got my chicken start from him. Good guy and like to patronize him... But I wasn't the only one that had that expression...While we were BS'n ... Two others walked in one wanted pellets and the other one wanted scratch...

I wonder what the price jump is from? So the scratch went way up too?

Don't know about scratch... Since I throw out a cup full periodically don't buy all that often. But the guy that came in for it... walked out....

Ok, so had to see what my last batch came out to. I have a custom mix that's corn and soy free, 1305 lbs this batch on 1-10-2023 (the amount of alfalfa meal and linseed meal and grains that used can vary) came out to $31 a hundred minus the charge to grind. I have no complaints especially when a woman I was talking to was paying more than that for 50#. The hens keep laying and the meat birds grow like they should. I'm happy with it.

Holy mackerals! You're in the heart of farm country and can't get reasonable priced product. That's crazy!

Um, somewhere between 25 and 30, thinking closer to 25. The co-op is a 40 mile round trip so bulk is the best way to avoid extra trips. This batch of feed should last into May or so.

Last March-April I paid somewhere between $18-$19 for my meat chickens. Haven't priced out feed yet this year but we have 125 meat birds coming the third week of March.

Whoops, turns out an icy snowdrift pulled the heated waterer out of the extension cord socket. The water inside was frozen solid. Could have been over a day. Idk, either they were eating snow or drinking from mud puddles, thankfully. Nobody rushed the waterer when I lifted the lid. I'll have to keep a better eye on it because I eyed it yesterday and saw it was over 1/2 full from the outside, might have been frozen sold then

Edit, it was more likely the mud storms from the draining lake that weighted down the snow drift on the cord.

Oh, I'm thinking of getting a stamp for 1 egg per dozen that says "Laid in America! "

When I am not freeze drying them (I do this during the summer when production is high) I sell what I don't use at work.
