Ugh. That's a lot of small dead wood in the next one above your head.

Edit: bore that thing so it don't chair on you.

:hair::bug: sure glad you got those down safely, brother.
First ash tree I ever dropped, barber chaired on me, it had a bit of lean on it too. It split at least 10' up the trunk, thank GOD, it sat down on the remaining trunk up top and didn't fall on me...I had fence in front of me and steep bank with creek behind me...I sure learned some things that day, after I got my wits back.

That's some nice cherry, I know it was smelling good.

It sure was smelling sweet! When I opened up the cap door to unload I had to take a couple wiffs. Typically all the wood from across the road goes to my parents but after cutting the first cherry I just couldn’t resist taking one for myself.

I zoomed in on the stump that snapped. Should have taken some better close ups. You can see the breakage.

Still can’t stop thinking about it.

Split this wood today with dad. Word of the day was decay, unfortunately.

The pile beside the splitter is pretty much all firepit wood.

This year is the first time I’ve had any quantity of punky junk come out of my pens. Usually I toss it in the burn pile. This year, at the last moment I decided to toss it in the woodstove instead. Punk is my new shoulder season wood :)

I’m burning low grade splits rn. It’s messy, but makes heat. There is a bunch of trash in one of my stacks. It has me thinking western sun and wind exposure is important for long term storage. Wasted Benjamin’s :emb:
