I have one similar to that and it works well. The dogs have even learned to bark when the alarm goes off.
A Duke #6 with auxiliary teeth might do the trick. It doesn't need feeding, is silent until activation, it snags them, holds them, and actives the alarm all in one snap. Might be illegal however.
Try Wemo. http://www.wemo.com/?gclid=COOR3ZXNg8cCFQ6raQodxi4AKA If you have internet always on at home then aim Wemo motion sensor to garage door. When it senses movement it can trigger any number of options. Like send you text message or ( I'm supposing ) trigger an alarm or both. If used in conjunction with IFTTT it can be very powerful. While I don't own one I've heard a lot about how useful they can be. This link will explain more: http://www.belkin.com/us/F5Z0340/p/P-F5Z0340/?_ga=1.53012395.2087880070.1438285006
This is another reason I'm glad that between and my fiance, there is almost always someone home, me working weekends and her working weekdays, and I'm constantly in and out of the yard, our house would be impossible to plan a break in. Living on a dead end road with a neighbor with equally erratic schedules is also a bonus. Another note, I'm not sure if you have it or are interested but we bought a keyless entry lock for our door, just a keypad with numbers, you can program 20 different numbers and some models even only let certain numbers work at certain times, so if you have a business with people coming acc going constantly you can limit who goes where, ours was $120 and I love it, it works well in central Wisconsin in the winter. And I also find we lock the door a LOT more often now that I don't need to remember or fumble for keys every time we leave for any amount of time. Before our door rarely got locked now it's locked more often than not.
Had an older version of this on a stand-alone garage: http://www.amazon.com/Fortress-Secu...UTF8&qid=1438297044&sr=8-1&keywords=diy+alarm Did everything I needed, Motion detector, magnetic trips for doors & windows, siren, & dialed my phone... about $175. KaptJaq
Use a basic magnetic contact for the door position, couple bucks. Wire a siren in series with the contacts and a power supply. Put a small mechanical switch in line as well that you hide outside the garage in a spot that you can easily reach. Very little in parts and you will be set. You will need a form C magnetic contact, or one that is normally open in order for that system to work. You could spend another 25 bucks and ad a timer which would allow you to locate the disarm switch inside. If you want a simple version that is battery operated, check into the Detex EAx500. That unit I believe has a built in delay and is operated via a keyswitch. Amazon has them around 150. The other stuff would run you 75 bucks +/-
Depends on the trapping regs. Aux teeth are forbidden in a number of states and likely there is no human trapping season. Them regs will get ya every time.
I have always had dog (s), at house. Never been broken into. my house would be easy too its never locked. never seen point of locking a glass door. By far the most loving good with kids and family loving security dog. IMO is a rottweiler, had one, great dog, oh you could bribe her with food but DO NOT get out of your car if you were closer to kids than I was! Addicts friends of my brothers who dropped him off would not get out of car!! Got a German Shepard now, Rescue was abused by men a little nervous, she will come stand behind me. I got home late from appointment 2 nights ago the three girls (wife, daughter and dog all asleep) in MBR. I come in door that Shepherd flew down stairs very aggressive. Good dog! Plus side she loves wife and daughter.. very pretty very friendly. before you just go get a dog check with your insurance company
I have a dog with an eardrum blowing shriek instead of a bark. Drives me crazy when he's yelling about bunnies and the ups driver but in the end I sleep well at night knowing he is with us
A couple years ago I bought a motion detecting security light that actually had a mechanism that also turned a light on in the house if it was triggered. I was planning on installing it with a screw-in siren outside that would go off when triggered. Then the light inside could wake me up so I could grab my Winchester. The siren was available, I think, at harbor freight. I haven't installed the fixture yet. I do have driveway alarms from Northern Tool. They work very well even at more than 500' from the alarm base.
