Sue, because the other guys chimed in good on the gaskets, I'll just comment on cleaning out the channel. If you have a drill (cordless is nice) get one of these and they work wonders:
Exactly. Only issue I had with mine was the cordless drill is dying (or the charger....not sure which), so I had to use it manually. I've been eyeing a new drill, but man oh man the prices have gone ballistic. Suuuuure. Uh, no. The project list is already longer than I have left to live. My wife just sent me an e-mail with another Christmas project. She needs to stop doing that.
Even a little project like that ,running a wire wheel ,is best done with a 110V drill, cordless drill doesn't have the power or speed ,to hang
I had to replace the door gasket on my EPA tube stove last year. The Rutland gasket cement had crumbled like a cracker and the gasket itself had compressed. The OEM gasket was 5/8; I went with a 3/4 replacement and used a bead of red RTV to hold it in place. It took a few days for the gasket to compress down so that the door latched without undo pressure, but after that, dang, that gasket was tight as a drum.
Thanks, Dennis! I will pick one of these up in the the hardware store on the way home. Sorry for the late reply, my notifications are acting squirrelly again. I am up in Scotty's 'hood in Tyrone and am headed back home today.
