Either one beats splitting by hand.

Nope, have synthetic hydraulic oil, one or twice at -50* I have used a silent glo diesel heater to warm it.

To me, cycle time does matter. My big 37 ton with the 4way & log lift is good for making boiler wood because the splits are 2' by 8-10" square. When making "normal" stove size splits or campfire wood we use a 22ton & 25ton "small" splitters. I put stops in them at 18 1/2 " to keep cylinder motion to a minimum. Shortens cycle time & increases productivity. Unless the wedge is in the wood the splitter is costing, not earning money. 22 ton is plenty of power. I have a machine similar to the Champion & have had a pump failure (warranty), but no engine issues. Honda's are better, but I'm not sure they're better enough to justify the additional cost. Most engine failures are fuel or oil related. That's on the operator not manufacturer.

I have 27 ton champion. I have had no issues splitting anything I throw at it. Plenty fast cycle time for me.

I have the 27 ton Champion since July of this year, zero issues. starts on the first pull and eats any twisted round I throw at it. decided to go with them after my experience with my Champion generator (thing was pretty clutch in this year's hurricane season). That said, Champions are made in China so we'll see how long they last, and like someone posted earlier: if the engine goes out you can replace it twice for the $500 you'd save on the Champion.

I have a north star. Probably 10 years, maybe a little longer. I bought it primarily due to the fact of having the honda engine. It has never failed me.
