Its an MS461, not dull, and is properly oiling. I cut a lot of 18-36 inch hickory on my own property, and start to see the paint wear on a weekend. To the steel, no, but the letter will begin to wear as will some of the white on the bar. I was not bashing anyone, but I was curious how it would hold up...touchy

Id wonder how it would hold up too. I just was wondering about your bar? I have some pretty abused bars and still have half the paint on them.

Dex has some cheap bars that he has on some saws that have well over 10 cords on them and you have too look for the few paint chips.

Now that I keep sharp chains and swap them out I am amazed at the lack of paint I loose on my bars.

I bought a kit and did the valve covers on an engine I'm building. I also did the GMC letter inserts from the grill. engine1.JPG engine2.JPG Grill logo dipped.JPG The company said it would hold up....we'll see I guess!

Assuming your question is directed towards the carbon fiber print on the bar of my little 170, I can't be of much help. To answer your question, that saw will never touch wood . . . frankly as long as I own it, it won't even be started. I just did that to play around and to have a unique shelf piece.

My assumption is along the same lines as your thinking - that the coating would not hold up very well if the bar were to be put to use.

Thanks, I think so too. I have a 661 I'm about to do in carbon fiber like Dex's 460. I have several ideas I'd like to try . . . I really want to do one of my old 070's in a wood grain!

    Finally finished!!!

Masterminded Stihl MS661C-MR. The graphics have a couple of small blemishes, but I fully expected that. Just like the MS460 from earlier in this thread, I let my buddy's son (dipper-in-training) use these parts for practice. I'm told geometric patterns like this are much more challenging than solid colors or 'random' patterns.

Paint pens and patience.... I bought a new model plate ($2.99) in case I royally screwed it up or ever wanted to return it to the orange. I also colored in the orange ring on top of the 'ElastoStart" pull handle.

I hate to keep throwing money at the saw, but I'm also tempted to get a set of the black powder coated 'skeleton' spikes off the 'bay.
