    (Pick is DexterDay's). It can get your wood hot (lol), but it allows the hot gas a direct escape route.

    I appreciate the link. Not sure if I could do the gills without the exhaust being put on the plastic. I like the idea though. The front cutout would be a good idea even though it can roast your wood while cutting haha. I don't have a welder to weld a pipe exhaust on but I'm sure I could find a local exhaust shop to weld it on. I'll post a pic of the front view of the muffler below. What would be your opinion on a preferred type of muffler mod? I can see where power gains might be achieved by getting the exhaust out quicker and letting everything run cooler.

    Similar saw, same muffler, this is what my son did to his Jonsered 2150. He does have the bracket on it now too.

    Would y'all take a cut off disc on an air tool and cut the slots then use flat head to bend them out? What would be the proper way?

    I always leave the original opening as is.
    Use something to pry against so you don't push the other side down.

    What kind of gains do you normally see from the muffler mod? Kind of like what you see from going stock manifold to headers on a v8?

    Just like the headers, it all depends on how bad the stock exhaust was. Something like a Stihl MS290/390, is going to be a night and day difference. The newer saws from Stihl tend to have less restrictive mufflers so not such obvious gains there.

    I would imagine yours would respond nicely.

    I think I may try to get the mod done today. Would y'all open it up on top or would you open it up on both sides of the muffler?

    I'd widen the top to the whole size of the deflector or close to it and then open up the B and C side with gills or another deflector and drill a like 3/8 or half inch hole there at least.

    What I have heard is your trying to get close to 80% of the exhaust port area in muffler outlet area. Or basically east holes equal 80% of cylinder ex port size. Some say up to 100% but I think that is for a bit more higher performance saw than you have. Haha

    There is rumors of a video somwe here of Drad Snelling running DexterDay house with the front cover off his muffler!!:eek:
    I know it happened I just haven't seen the video!!:D

    I'd start there. Be sure to clean the muffler out when your done. & retune.

    I appreciate that info. Does the deflector come off pretty easy? I don't have a Dremel just a cut off tool for the air compressor. I could maybe drill 4 small holes and the use the cut off disc to connect them. I can open a 1-1 1/2" slot on the b&c chain side no problem I believe to achieve the 80% size of the exhaust port

    So start with a 1 1/2" gill on the B&C side and then retune after the mod. By cleaning out you mean with compressed air or with some carb cleaner/gas?
