The 288 sure has been getting a good workout lately! I’ve been dropping a ton of big trees with it the last month.

That’s pretty much all I’ve been cutting, right along dcnr roads. The gypsy moth caterpillars have really destroyed massive amounts of oak around here. The state closes areas for salvage timber sales and posts them for no fuel wood cutting, everything else is fair game with a permit. You can’t drag any logs or drive off the roads, must hand carry.

Parts saw 6421, I have an XS7900 I want to keep running for a long time. Bought this saw to canibalize. Whoever was running this was on drugs and abused the living daylights out of it. Should still be good for a number of parts. There isn’t a dealer around. I really don’t see it being worth the time and money to put a 7900 top end on it.

They somehow managed to snap of one of the ears on the oiler drive.
    IMG_0005.jpeg

I tried putting on a new clutch and drum but the crank is wallored out so bad from not changing it out. The new drum has massive amounts of play up and down not a mechanic but I think without a full rebuild this thing is toast.

    IMG_0004.jpeg

No machining marks left and drops pretty quick when held up by the string. Can’t believe it’s not scored or toasted. I’ll just park it on the shelf and when something breaks on the other saw rob it for parts.

Poor thing! I had a employee that could do that. He could F up a anvil with a fly swatter.

I’ve never seen a bar chewed up that bad. Was it a rental saw?

    Yes

yep truly sad, it would last more than a lifetime if poorly maintained. This is scorched earth, run into the ground. Oh well, their loss is my gain. Lots of parts on there when needed. Parked on the shelf.

Been looking at these cheap top handle saws. This one has nuts and a launcher. Screenshot_20231104_190711_Amazon Shopping.jpg

Pulled the old 50 out just to start it and get some fresh fuel in the carb. Took the typical 6-8 pulls after sitting probably a year or more.

This little bastage is snotty to pull. Seems like it has plenty of compression.

Was always picky on the rope recoiling back in. Now I know why. This was a free-bee at my first gtg. It fired and coughed some but didn’t get fully running. If Andrew doesn’t want it, I’d be open to passing it along to someone here. Really don’t use/need it anymore.

Nice 50. You don't see many with the recoil badge intact. Mine fell off in the woods after a couple years of use.
