Thanks. See my post #5299 We have the hybrid thornless around here. Popular yard tree. I seldon score any and at the dump usually.
We have the thornless variety here too. See a lot of them in cities as they are hardy and not bothered by pollution and pavement.
We have tons of it in our woods here. Commercially not desired, but it's not only great firewood but the heartwood is very nice when quartersawn. What isn't nice and straight becomes firewood and the nice logs become lumber here. I treat the thorns just like limbs and run the saw up the trunk de-thorning it. Not really too much extra work but I try to clean them off somewhere other than on a trail or even near a trail. I keep extra innertubes for the tractor and a plug kit for the quads... I've gotten pretty handy at changing / patching tubes...
I use the top side of the bar & run it up the trunk, it throws those prigs away from you, it’s like throwing darts at your self when using the bottom side of the bar.
LOL... Not hardly... I'm much more concerned about keeping my fingers and toes to go that fast... LOL Besides, I couldn't fit into one of those "spandex safety suits"... LOL For sure, I forget on occasion, but quickly stop pulling those arrows at me. You learn real quick after a couple of those end up in your crotch. Chaps always also...
For me, some fall off, but I usually come back and harvest them after a 2 or 3 years and most of them are still hangin' on. They do come off much easier though. I had hoped more would fall off more quickly, but that hasn't been our experience here. Steel shank boots are standard equipment as well when I'm back in that part of the woods...
Hoping against the odds to get a cool bar delivered this weekend for the PS 9000 to get load tuned. The 075 has been sitting since Winter to get load tuned. Pull handle broke last I ran it and it’s been sitting since winter. War department is working this weekend so I hope to get to both.
I picked this guy up yesterday. Really nice one owner / home owner condition. Runs and cuts like new.
You laughing at the tiny saw, bagged firewood or the snobby beer? I feel pretty out of place. Guys wife was complaining the out door fire pit is always smoky. I didn’t say much but observed the guy stuff a couple pieces of newspapers under the wood with the plastic still on! I went over to the back of the little lot where the neighbor dumps his lawn debris, couple hand fills of kindling and the wife was giving the look at the guy like he was an idiot… He will be happy to tell me a few more times how much he makes and his house and blah blah blah. Good thing these beers are potent!
