I’m about to tear into this 61. Runs ok but I want to go through it. Wasn’t passing pressure. Not a gusher but wasn’t holding. Pulled the clutch and flywheel and found these cracks. Turns out their tight. It was a loose 3mm bolt on the retainer in the picture. Tightened that and hold like a champ. What do think of the cracks below the shaft and next to the coils bolt?
Got these in the last 7 days. $5 per Stihl case. The craftsman saw was $2. The Mall was $20. Craftsman works and cut good and included a soft vinyl storage case. Gotta replace the Malls plug. I have an old Mall saw from the '50's also, free from a neighbor, it had been in the garage since before 1973 when they bought the house. Picked up the old beam sale last summer for $5 Sent from my SM-A205U using Tapatalk
Terrible pictures, sorry. Got this 394 at a good deal and rebuilt it. Including a carb kit. After the build it would flood. Bought one of these gauges and rebuilt the carb. Makes a big difference. Walbro and Tilletson sites are pretty adamant about setting the metering lever correctly. I’m on board.
Been using the 261 quite a bit since taking its virginity. Probably 15 tank full through it. Cut red oak, hickory, red and sugar maple and locust. Loving the saw every time i use it!
Built a new place for my saw while between cutting spots. Normally I keep em in the cab, but it will be nice to have it up and out of the way. Transport to and from will still be in cab, not into temptation for thieves.
i really like that. I have ladder racks on my PU and when full of wood i have to put the saw on tip of the load. The passengers side has all the axes/mauls etc. Nicely done! Redd
That saw is on CL near me and has been for 18 months. I see it at least 3 times a week. I saw this one tonight on CL. Getting the repair done!
Just went through these ,and got them running for a neighbor . 87 YO ,and still able to run these things . Gave him my seniors discount ... Charged him 5 bucks ,as he insisted on paying . He brought this over later ,as it wasn’t running . He gave it to me . So , I put in a new spur sprocket ,new chain , changed the impulse tube , opened up the muffler a wee bit ,and dyed the top . It’ll be going to some young man that needs a starter saw .
Get it degreased , use RIT dye ,a bit of salt ,and some vinegar. Needs warm water to penetrate 150-180f . I use my ultra sonic cleaner . But ,any metal container will work . Pro tip ... Do not use your wife’s pots . AND ... If you spill this stuff inside , you are on your own . Do not say you heard how to do it from me !
They’re all square on the inside What was that log heading toward? You’ve planted the seed for my shed!
