Saved from the crusher , original Pioneer bar , Pioneer chain , not a crack in the plastic airfilter cover , the airfilter was clean . It felt like good compression and it had spark so I poured fuel in the carb and it fired up ! I'll get Pioneerguy600 from over on AS to give the fuel system a going over and hopefully I'll cut up a few blocks of wood with it , might even use it as my only "Loaner" saw lol
Brought the 359 project saw with the 357xp p/c uprate into the murder today. A year and a half ago I joined FHC looking for help for my only saw, a tired 353. I guess I found it.
Plucked from the scrap yard. Roasted top. Cleaned up the cylinder using 120/220 emery. Running an AM Chinese SXL piston. All new consumables. Looking forward to demolishing my buddy's MS290.
Was down at the local Husq. shop Monday . There was what appeared to be a badly beat on 350without a muffler ,smoked P&C ,and a few fasteners with a note “free saw ,low hours . So, it was adopted . Got it cleaned up ,and there was virually zero wear on the spur sprocket . So basically maybe 4-5 tanks ? It’s an ‘05 model .Put a 346XP NE top end on it . Runs well for a 350 clamshell ! Got all the pieces at cost because I grind chains for the shop N/C when they get slammed with work .
My new Timberwolf and just built pallet enclosure for all the wood. We also just had installed a Quadra Fire Voyageur Grand insert
How long can you buck small five inch stuff with one charge? I was thinking of buying one for demo in confined spaces. No fans ect. Also, I am wondering if makita will keep only their battery saws blue? I used a blue makita demo saw last fall. It may be a sugar pill effect, but I think the blue makes me feel younger
I've only got a couple of 3Ah from my drill and driver sets so I'm gonna pick up a couple of 5Ah batteries and a new Stihl chain for it . I'm not expecting miracles from it but I see a use for it and since I already have some "Infrastructure" in place , it really isn't an expensive leap because I have a drill , 2 1/4" drivers , a circ saw and grinder on the same platform . One thing about the Makita cordless tools , 18v is their setup , no marketing wank , 18v for the foreseeable future . I found the saw at a "reputable" pawnshop , 125 Cnd Kopecs .
Thanks. I'm not expecting miracles either, just a solution for working on shoring up an old house. No way to vent very well. I use 20 volt dewalt everything. I use to use the three amp hour batteries when they were two for a hundred bucks. Now I've switched to the five amp, as I go through about 10 batteries a year, depending. I use my 20 volt hammer drill for coyote trapping. And it works great. Thanks
I have both Makita and Stihl electric chainsaws , both are excellent for interior demos . I'll post up my thots on the battery saw after I get some runtime on it .
Appreciate that. I'm thinking of getting away from dewalt. Some stuff is chinese, some american. The chinese drills break alot easier. I know it's my fault for dropping them, but I still do it daily.
Very nice! That combination makes an excellent saw, light and nimble with lots of power for its weight class.
That's the nice thing about Makita , they've stayed with the 18v platform . No 20v bs that's really 18v but now you need all new tools . Need more power with Makita , plug 2 batteries in .
I can agree with that. My friend I work with uses 18v right along side of me. Work gets completed all the same. The reason I switched over to dewalt 20v, was due to battery price. Until last year, one could buy three amp hour batteries for 2/99 dollars. now batteries are just as expensive as 18 volt here. I lost 6 five amp hour batteries to the cold this winter. I always nuke a big potato, and put my batteries in a cooler if I'm working off grid. Don't know what is going on with their batteries, but it gets pricey on my end
Yup I bought one of those 20v/18v adapter kits with adaptor & two 20 volt 3amp hour batteries plus 1 extra adapter a few months back.$128 shipped on Amazon. 1 adapter alone was $38 shipped. My 2 18v driver/drills,sawzall,5 3/8 trim saw are from 15 to 20 yrs old now.Didnt want to spend a ton starting over with 20V stuff. In December I splurged & also bought a bare tool 18V 6.5 circular saw at a local contractor's supply for $85. My old trim saw only turns 1000RPM with fresh battery, not much power there. But the new 6.5 model turns at 3700,big difference.I actually prefer the Milwaukee 18V Fuel 6.5 circular saw (used them at work last spring) but wanted to stick with the Dewalt platform since that's all I had. Amazon also had a twin pack of those massive 6 amp hour batteries for $180,list price over $320. Wanted the big batteries for the circular saws & Sawzall since they tend to run down quicker than using drill/drivers in my experience. All my 18v batteries are used with the drills,20v with the saws.
