My buddy snagged a 32" roller nose for me at a yard sale. I need to build a couple chains for it yet. With a shorter bar this saw will see some more work. My 42" wouldnt clear some of those drops. Nice to have a long bar when needed.
No. It had red heartwood through the middle of the whole tree, except where it was rotten or hollow. This tree was in declining health and was beginning to drop bigger and bigger branches at random times. It just looks purplish now because it's been sitting in the rain for 3 months. The guy that bought some figured wood off my other tree talked about the red color. I think he said it was just age/poor health. I know he said this tree woulda had some decent $$$ in it for figured wood if the red coloring hadn't set in.
Heres a pic after I cut into it and split some blocks off. You can see the dark color is only near the top where it's been rained on.
Went out back and grabbed a few logs today. We've had a ton of rain so it's really wet. We only grabbed a few. This is my log transportation setup. 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4. I built the green log carrier. Saw a few at the Woodsman's Field Day's in Boonville a few years back so I had to make me one. Sure beats dragging logs through dirt and mud. Can buck the logs off the end too! Old Homelite on the left. Left to right, Husky NE 346XP, 365XT and Johnny Red 2258. Hopefully it'll stop raining so much and dry up. We'll be able to get more regularly. NYH1.
Yep that log carrier is very cool. Good job on building it. I like to see things from people who make their own stuff.

That is some serious power you have there Thistle. I had one Mac a gear drive but I really never did anything with it so I gave it to Mark Heimannm. I do not have any big Homelites but I would not mind having one someday.
