Yep, you're looking at about 30-40% faster cutting than round if done correctly, and more durable than round in my experience.

I agree for the average firewood guy these are hard to beat. I have both the stihl and husqvarna 2 in one files. Will replace either if I lost them.

I'm sorry. Should've said :pete: first.

I learned by picking up a file and doing it. Sure the first few didn't cut all that great. But it got better. The main thing is to know what sharp looks like. Study a new chain and use it as a blueprint.

So Kimberly the general consensus is... that technique is hogwash, lol. Don't try it!!

There are tons of how-to's and advice on filing right here on the site, just a search result away should you seek assistance with your chains.

    Now..

FYI I'm not going to try it, cuz it's too easy to screw it up under power without a proper quality Jlg or something, even then, it may need some hand work.
Not so much with sharpening but with detailed filing I have screwed up stuff trying to use power tools

I hate telling people to search. Just doesn't feel very welcoming. Everyone should ask away. That said this stuff is so important that they stuck it to the top of the main page.

    Chain sharpening tutorial.

Don't him haw around, ask a question straight up, I had sharpened hand plane blades, jointer blades, chisels things like that, but I was late in the game with chainsaw teeth. I ask, I have never sharpen a chainsaw chain before need some info, well I didn't stop at that I kept asking more questions
Edit, I did a lot of research to, oh yeah and then there is trial and error

In the video he only uses a small section and then snaps it off when it is worn out.

I agree as well, but being a long time moderator of a motorcycle forum, I've had to deal with the same exact questions year after year and the answers are all a search away. So I've learned to steer toward the search in a friendly manner, not simply saying search it. In the early times We did this:
For the record, this is not directed @ anyone... :D

With the great folks here, I don't mind answering away post by post. It's time well spent.
