Well, yes, I got a new Stihl (362C) with a 20" bar/chain and a 25" bar with a few 25" full skip chains to go with it as you know. I have the cutters I need, and a file I need, so I am all good.

But when ordering them, it got me thinking why don't they list this as a spec somehow? It was not on a paper in the chain box, actually only the chain was in the box, with a sticker of the model and specs of the chain. But those specs do not list a file size, or tooth size... So this is more of a "learning excersise/discussion" for me, and I'd bet a lot of other folks like me. ;)

That's just something I copied and pasted ,I don't know why the question marks are there, they don't mean anything

Even after watching a quadrillion videos on sharpening chains, I remain Sir Jack Wagon. A Granberg sharpener proved wholly ineffective. A buddy of mine has a cheap @$$ Harbor Freight sharpener and it put wicked edges on my chains.

Every manufacturer of chain that I have seen prints a file size spec somewhere. Usually on the box.

Sure they do. But instead of "hiding" it and making us search for it in a 4 page document printed with micro print, they aught to just print it on the box, in big bold letters along with the other 4 specs on there.

Yea, found that. But again, same response as above.

So when sharpening a chain. You come across that odd tooth that skips the next tooth at the end of the loop. How do you sharpen that tooth in the same manner as the rest. I've just been eyeballing it so far. This is on the northern tool chain grinder...

Should be able to grind it just as you did the others? Unless I'm not understanding the question. Just do all of the left cutters and then go around again doing the right cutters.

I think he means the chain has an odd ball empty link (skipped link with no cutter). So for that cutter, there is nothing to stop and hold the chain on (normally the next cutter).

On the 511a, the stop holds the tooth you are grinding. The NT sharpener is different ?

My little HF grinder is the same way. I just eye ball it.

Rarely use it any more now that I have gotten the hang of hand filing & minimal cutting of wood on the ground.

Have another look at it the next time you get the chance. Is it possible to readjust the pawl so that it holds the cutter you are grinding on?

And, I guess on a full skip chain, you can adjust the stop back far enough to hit the next cutter which is a few links back... right? OR would that also be a problem?

No.. You must have the pawl index the back of the cutter you are grinding... Or your cutters will rock on you..
    I have an NT grinder...
