You don't like semi or you don't like tilt on semi?

The best thing about a grinder or a grandburg jig is the ability to experiment with different angles and find what works best for you.

Tested with a stop watch? Or just feels more agressive?

Okay, so, on the tilt or no tilt issue there is no right or wrong answer ?

    I have a stihl 23rm3, I have been sharpening at 10 degrees
I have just been going by the chart that I posted in this thread on page 1

I can't even find a chart direct from stihl on the angles

    I definately notice:
    - A more aggressive, durable cutter that self feeds well when using the tilt in the proper direction ..........
    - No tilt produces a cutter that will get the job done, but it doesnt self feed as well
    - Opposite direction tilt yields a very aggressive self feeding cutter that doesnt hold its edge as well as the other two options

As far as testing with a stopwatch, my then 92 year old neighbor timed me on his wrist-clock then, but opposite direction tilt wins there if the saw has the power to pull through it.

To me, RM is more durability than speed .......... so I grind or file accordingly

Yes.. It's odd that Stihl suggests a level grind on it.
But then again, Oregon suggests 30-60-10

Semi chisel I put a little up tilt with the file. Chisel usually gets a double bevel on it.

Same angles for all chain, but I dont grind my own full chisel, they allways get hand filed and turned to square

Try it out for yourself and do some experimenting

    Haha autocorrect got me.

I dont have enough semi chisel. The only I have is in 3/8 lopro.

The question mark behind it was not that your crazy just that I have two guys that I respect and know chain sharpening and one says one thing and the other says another...so truly confused.

When I do it I probably will do it just like my full chisel and tilt it now.

There is allways more than 1 way to skin the cat Clem.

We may each be right, and we could also each be wrong.
For example, if the saw does not have enough power for the more aggressive "tilted" semi-chisel, then the no tilt might be the better way to grind them.

Thats why its best to try different things on your own and see what works for your application

Yea your right. Just like you can grind at 30° or 35° whatever you like. The saws I have semi on are usually 45cc or under. So not very power full.
