Already have a yagi antenna with a reflector. Trees, terrain and distance wreak havoc with 900 MHz wireless internet.

Not going any higher than the 50 feet it is already.

It is what it is. I deal with it. I've lived nearly 40 years without being able to stream video over the Internet, I'm sure the next 40 years will be just fine. :)

I am in the same situation. I'd be happy with over the air, but we don't get that either.

I get a lot of over the air channels. I have a rooftop antenna and get somewhere around 30 digital channels. They're all pretty much duplicates. I get two ABC affiliates, two CBS, two PBS, and a handful of others with the various digital sub channels. Sometimes I watch the northern Michigan news (WWTV out of Cadillac comes in better than the CBS affiliate in Kalamazoo), and if conditions are right I can get stations from the Detroit metro area, Milwaukee, WI and South Bend, IN.

I used to be on the 'no local channels' package with Dish until I got a new receiver a couple years ago, and that package magically wasn't available anymore. The new and improved package comes with local channels for an extra $5/month.

I have 35MB fiber internet, and even so amazon streaming sometimes gets choppy and drops out. I wouldnt want to rely on that for TV.
And sometimes I just like to channel surf.

Call me old school though.. I still listen to my music on vinyl too ;)

wildwest the CBS thing is probably a contract dispute. Verizon just went through that with fox and all the fox channels where off air for 3 or 4 days before they settled.

    Hey there!

I have this for our cell phones. Still only a bar or two but texting is pretty reliable.

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/37297159?...74820392&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=81467113352&veh=sem

I pay for by the gig for satellite internet, no cable or dsl here. Any other thoughts? I'd love to cut the cord.

Do your internet tv shows play on your tv or your computer screen?

    thanks

DirectTV was getting to be rediculous for us, over $100/mo for a modest package, 2 TVs with HD and DVRs. Got tired of the monthly "let's make a deal" calls and told them to stuff it.

Bought a couple Roku boxes, have subscriptions to Netdlix and Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime too I think and the wife and kid couldn't be happier. I hardly watch any TV anymore.

    Todd 2 ,

I tried to get over the air here in the new home with no success however the antenna in the RV gets a few channels. I think we had 6 channels, most of them running trash tv shows, but better than nothing :)

What kind is your antenna and where did you get it?

Suppose an antenna like yours would pick up more channels than the directional one in the RV?

I won't do internet TV, pay by the gig for satellite internet...so that would get costly.

If I could get TV on one of those he could put our cell phone repeater antenna up there too....

I have vhf and uhf antennas for a number of years they are on a 40 foot tower plus on top of a hill so it is up there. Augie is correct the height keeps the signal clear and a standard fm inline booster reaches more distant channels. The wire mesh bow tie antenna is a Terrestrial Long range digital(uhf) that replaced the arrow shaped one, an older Winegard (vhf) that is not needed now, Cleveland, Pittsburg and Stuevenville no problem, about a 100 mile max, hard rain or snow breaks up the distant channels some. Looks like Amazon has about the best deals on antennas but the height was the best improvement. We thought we were missing out on real TV so I had Dish installed 18 months ago and it will probably go in 6 more when the contract is up, $100 a month is getting old, we enjoyed renting movies for a lot less.

What are you using the VHF one for? TV doesn't use that band anymore.

lol, good point Grizz, as you can tell I'm not to up to date on digital tech. The guy I hired to climb and put the newer one on top did not say anything about the older one not needed. Said it was rusted (u bolts) to the rotor so mounted the new one on top. I figured they worked together… I will edit that, Thanks !

I REALLY miss our 8 foot analog dish. It was cheap and we had several satellites to choose from, could watch many programs airing in different time zones.

Channels 2 through 13 in the VHF band are still in use, though a lot of channels did move to UHF during the digital transition (PSIP made that easy for folks to not have to learn the new 'real' channel numbers).

About half the broadcast channels I get in my area are still in the VHF band.

I thought all analog channels were shut down. They are here.

Analog channels were shut down but digital channels can and do broadcast in the same frequency band as the analog equivalents.

For example in my area, WOOD TV shows a PSIP (digital) channel of 8, but broadcasts on VHF channel 7. WZZM TV shows a PSIP of 13 and also broadcasts on VHF 13. WGVU has a PSIP of 35 and broadcasts on VHF channel 11. WGVU was UHF before the digital transition and VHF afterwards.

Lots of companies made lots of money convincing people their old 'analog' TV antennas wouldn't work with digital signals. RF energy is RF energy. As long as the antenna elements are resonant at the frequency you're trying to receive, all is well.

Thanks for filling me in. Last I heard they were clearing the band of all television signals and re-assigning it. I guess that never came to pass.
