This morning I had a hankering for something like waffles so I tried the cast iron one I grabbed when my grandpa passed since we found that one before the electric one. Had it all seasoned and greased up but didn’t turn out well...hm. If I didn’t do a dang thing right, let me know. I sure would like to use it but if it’s a hanging piece for the wall...bummer.
It’s a bummer for sure, I just hope someone has a couple tips for me, I never really got this off the ground. But I’m not one to give up on cast iron, I enjoy cooking with it too much!
If the recipe calls for veg oil, I'd add a little bit more in. The waffles may come out a little crispier. Try cooking spray, if it smokes, then probably too hot. Start with a lower temp. Test with a tablespoon of the mix and see if it releases. I have a cast iron krumcake maker that did the same. I did the above and it worked out well. Keep trying. Looks like a pain to clean that one.
Yeah it was a little bit at first but after soaking it for an hour or so it wasn’t too bad. As much as I would like to use it, sometimes this kind of iron was used by someone who really knew what to do with it or used it so often in that manner. I know of a recipe that involves melted butter in the mix instead of veggie oil,Butter might have better non stick properies if used in right proportions ?? Not gonna throw in the towel, on this yet. Thanks for the input!
My guess is too much heat was used. Try it on low but let it preheat for a while. Almost everything I cook stays on low with a long pre heat.
