Anyone ever tried seasoning with Crisbee? Just bought some the other day and I'm giving a few pans the treatment. I'll report back when finished. I'm not totally sold on the need to really season pans this way by baking oil onto them in the oven. I thought I was sold on it being the best way until I stripped the Wapak #9 pictured above, cleaned, applied a little vegetable oil and just started cooking with it. It cooks just as easily and non stick as my pans I spent days baking flax oil onto.
This is the first time I totally stripped a skillet with oven cleaner and thought I'd try the oven method. I usually just start cooking with them also. Most times I'll just give the skillet a really good cleaning with a brillo then dry it on the stove and give it a little oil while it's hot. Then start using it. Quite often I'll cook onions in it first with some oil. Sometimes I'll cook some burgers in them first.
The skillets are done. Got a nice golden brown color to them now. I'll give them a workout tomorrow. (threw some taters in the oven while it was on)
i love chicken pot pie. Homemade is the only way to go. That is one of my comfort foods, but after the weather turns cool. For now, it is grill, salads, and sandwiches.
Close to 90 today in Western WA. Potato salad and leftover fried chicken. Any thing that won't heat up the house!
Well, last year, i was in the shop, had the wood stove going pretty good. Thought about some breakfast, i have had a pretty nice cast skillet out there for some time. Went in the house, got me some bacon, eggs, and bread. Made myself a dandy breakfast, don't know why, but, it sure tasted good coming out of that old cast iron skillet. I've got a really nice dutch oven and lid, but, have never used it, maybe this year.
Do I understand you made breakfast in the shop? That's almost like camping! If you made it in the kitchen, doesn't matter. You used the old cast. Had fun and tasted good too. My kind of breakfast!
Trying to eat a bit healthier lately (boring, I know) with the pregnant Mrs. Cant help but admire the mirror finish on the Wapak #9. That is the one pan I skipped the baked on seasoning method with and really cant tell any difference. Lodge #8 in front of that, nothing special or vintage, just a solid cooker!
Two of my favorites! Love asparagus of course but the squash and onions is great! In my opinion, squash is a highly under rated veggie.
All I do is onion, yellow/green squash, salt, pepper, garlic powder sauteed in olive oil. I like keeping it simple with vegetables. You can get a nice browning/sear on the squash without anything getting too mushy as well.
Take that squash and onions and ruin the health benefits with a sprinkling of smoky crumbled bacon and/or grated cheese! Makes my fat cells rejoice!
Tried the zucchini and squash. 2 each plus 2 onions. Parsley, basil, salt , pepper, olive oil, butter. and a pinch of Creole. Fried the onions added the rest. Stirred every few minutes till browned. Steamed some asparagus zucc/squash browned plated with baked fish I'm hungry now...
