I don't believe normal oven cleaner is safe to use on aluminum.

I would try a griddle scraper and also a grill brick or griddle stone. The scraper uses a blade along the lines of using a razor to clean paint off glass. It only works on a very flat surface.

The blocks or bricks are a pumice stone and will help breakup the grease and polish the surface. Use the block on a hot griddle with a bit of water and a silicon mitt and a good bit of elbow grease and it will clean up well.

Saw this on Amazon. cheap enough. good if it saves a burned hand or makes it more user friendly. Mixed reviews like most anything.

WW, you can use oven cleaner on it! "BUT" rinse it real good with a hose or something them wash it again with soap and water. I have a 1940's pot made of aluminum and when I do baked beans in it a few times it gets nasty.
If you can, soak it for about a week in apple cider or white vinegar. It'll come clean..;)

Junk man paid a visit this weekend, I got two Vintage 60's, 70's ish oval skillet pans. These were made by Lodge and sold in various stores and used in restaurants for fajitas and steaks. There actually "very nice" for eggs because of the low sides. You can cook two eggs nicely on them, and your normal steak or a couple pork chops!. He found this pair somewhere in the trash. Was a $10.00 investment for me:cool::flipeggs: They will go to my "stash" of useable pans.

I like the shape of those. You know you are going to have to hire another truck when you move. All that cast iron is going to be so heavy.

Has anyone tried using cast iron pots on an induction cooktop?

I've seen them on e-bay for $10.00 a piece. Some of the older ones are a bit more. You can still buy them and the come with a wood board so you can eat right off them and not burn/hurt your table. I have a couple of collector ones also that are for looking at, they were advertisements. They are nice for a couple or single egg. Most now are all made in china with the exception of Lodge but I think maybe more.

Nice grab on those pans Dave. I can see loaded nachos, potato skins or broiled stuffed shrimp right out of the oven on those.

Why, thank you! I've been meaning to introduce myself. Hopefully I will find the time and inspiration soon. :)

Excellent site/forum by the way. I really appreciate the "non-poisonous" atmosphere.
