Wagner Fat Free Fryer griddle is used for eggs. Youngest wanted to learn how to fry eggs from his chickens. The sides were short enough he could see the eggs. Everyone uses it for eggs now. #3 is for frying/searing onions or garlic. #6 if wife cooks up food for a tortilla wrap. #8 or #10 for family meals depending on what it is.
Picked up a #4 today. I organized the cast iron to see what I'm missing. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 10, 8 deep and 9 griddle. I know I have a #9 somewhere, unless I gave it away as a wedding present. I plan on extending the rod so I can hang more iron up. I have 4 sitting on a counter and one deep with a lid above this shelf. Also have a #12 with lid I need to clean up. Wife says we have enough cast iron....I have 10 more pieces hidden away in different states of strip and seasoning.
That would be something nice to have! I have an old Hamburger press but it don't look as big or nice as that.
I don't know. I picked up a #8 this weekend. 1/4" of build up all over the outside. I have it in a lye bath for initial strip clean up. Got to have a project.... another project that is easy to do inside.
I didn't know that. I think one of my #3s has the triangle Wagner logo. I'll have to look at it again. Kinda cool to think we are using tools 100 years old.
Got one maybe a year and a half ago. Slightly different color on the handle, but Blackstone. Love it. Also bought a rectangular stainless steaming/basting cover that works great for cooking down peppers and onions for Philly cheesesteaks. Like this, but not Blackstone-
We recently found out the enamel in most enamel pans has high levels of lead and cadmium. I'm happy with plain cast iron.
I'm happy with plain cast iron.[/QUOTE] That quickly sent me to Goggle it. Here is what I found "Fortunately, modern manufacturing has now reduced these elements to amounts well below that permitted by the United States Food and Drug Administration. To be safe, consumers should only purchase high-quality products made by reputable firms. "
I googled it also. Seemed one brand wss pushing the toxic elements idea more than the others. And using their "non-toxic" properties as a selling point. Idk, i never had the coated ones, so I'll just keep using the bare CI...
A friend of ours has a coated one and the coating has deep grooves and scratches in it and seems very soft. I think it's a lodge. My wife watches a lady who tests items for lead and heavy metals, "lead safe mama" is her name. She has a tester and will do items by popular request, or at least she used to. You can send her stuff to test as well.
Nicely displayed collection. Looks great. Curious. What did you use to attach the rod hanging brackets to the wall? I cant imagine the noise of all those pans crashing to the floor in the middle of the night
