A #14. SWEET!!! They are "Rare" these days! Very nice. Get that baby cleaned up and oiled. What a beauty. Check around the handle for cracks, those big boys, if ever dropped would crack there. I hope it's clean!
And this one was today's find. Needs just a bit of cleaning. I picked up some Wagner ware too, just #5 and #6 skillets.
I gotta go play the Lottery today! Cooking my usual eggs for B-fast and Ta-Da!!! Don't see a double, double yoker that often...
I just finished my soft boiled eggs on toast... Seeing that makes me hungry again... I love eggs and they are THE BEST when fried in IRON...
Ok, this is weird! Chrissy takes Bella out for a walk, goes past a yard/tag sale, tells me some cast iron is out for sale, I go look and for $30.00 I come home with 2 pans and a welder!!! Like I need either one of them... A unmarked #3 Wagner and a #8 BSR. And, who can't use a 110Volt arc welder in a pinch!
I just wiped the garage dust, crud dust off, plugged it in and struck an arc. Works great as far as I can tell, I didn't weld but it arcs like it should.
I had some spill over on my deep fryer and now it has these runny cooked on streaks, just like seasoning...tried dawn and water also simple green no go.....any ideas?
Im imagining a cast iron pot here....I used to stick them in the oven on self clean. But, now ours stay in pretty good shape with use. If the streaks are unsightly, perhaps a heating over a hot stove till it smokes off or mostly smokes off. We have a deep pot from the grandmother in law. It got skanky after our initial cleaning, regular washing and use has kept it pretty well Wish I had more wisdom. Sca
I had that happen on the inside when i sprayed a little oil in the skillet and heated it to dry it after cleaning. I forgot it was on low and when i came back the oil had puddled on one side and dried. I just left it go and it slowly went away with use. Not sure about the outside, but i think it will slowly go away also. I wouldn't worry about it.
Lots of cast iron pots and pans available, but not so much for quality. Keep looking at the roadside sales for some of the best pans. Unlike those new cookware sets, old cast iron can clean up really good an as good as new. Need to learn your pan and your stove together. Large pans can be used to cook multiple things at once if you know where to place them in your pan for heat distribution.
I know this thread is primarily for, and dealing with, older cast iron, but I have to mention this. Was in Bass Pro the other week and saw some unfamiliar cast iron near the Lodge. Started looking at it, picked up a piece, interesting looking and heavy. Then I looked at the price tag... Anybody seen a brand named Finex before???
Yeah. I picked up a pan and looked at it. While holding this nice heavy pan, I looked at the price on the shelf. I very very carefully put it back, and slowly backed away from the display. Then just stood there and at it...
