The bad thing I do is that I swap. I usually carry IWB right near my back right pocket. Sometimes I toss the gun into a cargo pocket in the summer. And it stays in the IWB holster. Now if I ever need it would I remember which cargo pocket it was in let alone not reach for it on my hip? Once I get it out I have to then rip the holster off or it!!
I just picked up a CZ 75 B a couple weeks ago. I think the PCR is the compact version with an aluminum frame as opposed to steel. I've only put 100 rounds through mine, but I like it so far. It's more accurate than any polymer framed handgun I've shot, and the all steel frame makes it pretty soft shooting. So I'm sure the PCR is a good gun, but depending on your son's needs I'm not sure if it's the best model. Personally I prefer full sized guns for range duty. And I find that compacts are more than I want to have on me for concealed carry, sub compacts or even what I'll call sub-sub compacts are much easier to hide.
I probably will eventually carry 24/7, but I need to ease into it to get the old lady used to the idea too.
If it truly is CC she won't know unless you tell her or she grabs your waist or something. I am not saying to sneak around and make her feel uncomfortable by carrying and she doesnt know but just illustrating my point. Many times my wife doesnt know and she outs her arm around my waist. Several times she feels it and then grabs the grip to see what it was and it then clicks. Just in her head she is like what's that feels it and that instant it clicks. She doesnt care where or what I carry though.
I almost got burned once when I was carrying somewhere I REALLY wasn't supposed to, and my wife hugged me, felt the gun, and lifted my shirt to see what it was showing to the world that I was carrying in a no-no zone. I was just lucky that nobody saw, or cared. So I made a habit after that of telling my wife (then girlfriend) every single time I carried, and now she just assumes I am.
My wife always assumes I am carrying...for good reason. "Don't leave home without it" I tell everyone I'd rather get caught with it than caught without it.
I'm in the carry everywhere unless it's a gfz boat also. Once you get your holster, you need to run draw and fire drills to get used to the process of getting that shirt up and away, drawing, aquiring target, and being able to hit under duress. I also suggest 1 handed shooting practice should you (hopefully not) ever need to draw with 1 hand and defend yourself with the other. You tube Vids are a good place to give you an idea of how fast bad guys can close a 7 yard gap. You gotta make it happen fast.
Yep, plus you need to learn how to hug a person while carrying so they don't accidentally touch it. I'm right hand so my right arm sweep under their left arm and forces it up to the shoulder. But the feel of confidence and the mental knowledge of it being there takes a bit of getting use to....
