Welcome Aboard! I am next door in West Greenwich. Whenever I get back to HD, I will grab some to try also.
I stopped at the HD in North Kingstown on my way home to see what brand they had. They had a pallet open of Fireside Ultra so I grabbed a couple bags. It has been very warm here so it may be a week or so before I get to burn them. I am going to pick up a couple bags of Carriage House this week from the Coventry HD as well. This thread is obviously about the Carriage House brand so I will post my results of the Fireside Ultra in a different thread.
Ive always had good results with the Firesides. One year they left some nasty clinkers behind but burned well, just had to scrape the pot out more often. This year will be a blend of pellets and Dino juice for me. Ive been grabbing bags of Inferno Gold from Big Y supermarkets in CT for $5/bag. The bag manufacture dates are 2015 so I'm not sure if they are old stock or just old bags with newer pellets in them? They burn great so I don't really care! (Inferno's that burn great? that's a tough one to spit out)
I have had good luck with the Inferno Golds currently on the market-not top tier but not bad pellets.. Heck on the big Lowes sell off 2 years ago I would have stock piled Inferno Gold at 99/ton if they had any. Its the original Inferno that were "dirt in a bag".
I had a few tons of Inferno pellets the first year they were available. I am not sure how long ago that was but I would guess close to 1o years. They were excellent that first year. Then I believe they had a fire at their plant. When they reopened the quality control went way down hill. I haven't heard anything good about them since then.
I got 4 tons of Infreno's during the fire sale spring of 2016 and they were on par with FSU's so I was happy with them.
I burned the two bags of Carriage House I had picked up from the Coventry HD. Overall they seemed to burn well. Ash was low. Heat seemed to be decent but I didn't measure it. Only issue was there was a good amount of dust particles in both bags. I usually dump the bags into a big trash barrel and then scoop from there. So the dust shouldn't be a big deal for me. I am going to burn the two bags of Fireside next to compare. As of now I think I'll grab a couple tons of Carriage House to start off the season. They seem to be a decent match for my Quadrafire Castile insert.
I burned the two bags of Fireside. They produced a lot more ash than the Carriage house. I've decided to grab three tons of the Carriage house. I am going to pick them up tonight. HD offers a $20 per ton discount if you buy three tons. That makes it ~$230 per ton if you buy at least three. I usually buy more expensive pellets like Barefoot, Vermont, LG, etc. They usually cost low $300's per ton. Hopefully I don't regret trying cheaper pellets and they burn well for me. I will post an update after I've burned a ton or so.
So just called HD 249. a ton or 219 if you buy 4 and delivery charge of 79. so it's cheaper by the bag or if you can transport 4 tons yourself.I also think EZB is pricing themselves out of the market around here the two places I would have bought them will not be carrying them this year .
