Personally I would not like the al. from the abuse factor. Weight limit seems a little low, 1/2 cord is not much to haul at a time. Steel save a few bucks and be able to haul a cord at a time.

I wouldn't worry about the rust issue. Wire brush and a can of matching spray paint will cure rust problems. Oil the wood deck liberally once a year.
Aluminum welds fatigue faster/easier than steel. Those small trailers vibrate a lot running empty. Another weld concern.
A beefy 5x8 can be had for around $1000 right now . Price of steel is way down.
I'm looing at 6.5x12's right now and really well built ones are right around $14-$1600.

Excellent points - I think I'll stick with steel and try a TS trailer - will save a lot of money and I'll just maintain it very well. Thanks for all of your advice - this site is awesome! Cheers!

TSC has about the flimsyist trailers made. You can buy a better trailer for the same price or less than $100 more. A bunch of decent brands: NNT , Big Tex, Liberty, Cam Superline, Quality.
I'm sure there is some others but these are the ones I looked at.
My NNT 5x8 was $1050 vs TSC brand $999. Well worth the beefier steel and A frame tongue.

Same can be said about trailers sold at most box stores, poor quality and comparatively overpriced. I looked at some trailers sold at Lowes 2 years ago and just pushing down on one corner made the whole 5x8 metal trailer deck twist :zip: An "A" frame couplers will increase the trailers strength over and single straight beam coupler too.

In Canada I ended up with this trailer...
UTILITY TRAILER - STANDARD DUTY | UTILITY TRAILERS / LANDSCAPE TRAILERS

...for about $200 more than this unit from Lowes
    5X8LSPHS 5-ft x 8-ft Wire Mesh Utility Trailer with Ramp Gate | Lowe's Canada

Day and night differences in trailers.

Leaf spring. Big max brand, sold at fleet farm. Big Max 4 Ft. x 8 Ft. Wood-Sided Utility Trailer

Lol, 1520 lb capacity. It's got a lot more than that in it in that pic. It's a well built trailer. Well worth the $650.

Went to TSC to check them out today - mainly the 5.5 x 10. Very poorly made. Ugly welds, lots of rust already showing, very poor paint job, and just very little attention to detail. Don't think I'll drop a decent amount on any of these at TSC. I'm trying to not break the bank, but I also would rather spend more upfront for quality. Just need to find the right one. I have a buddy that works at TSC and he said stay away - lots of complaints and cheaply made it his words. I've got about 2.5 months to find one - we'll see. Cheers!

For $999 I might jump on the 5.5x10 even with the poor quality I saw - I could get my money out of it for that price. Much more and I don't think so. Cheers!

this guy builds nice trailers. Very heavy for the money. Nice guy, family run business.
I've bought plenty of parts from him to rebuild trailers. You can buy a wheel and tire combo cheaper from him than buying a just a tire at a tire shop.

Regardless of what trailer you settle on, be careful of your choice of wheel chocks.

I much prefer the style like this Condor or other brands similar to it...

    images.jpg

Over ones with a bar running close to the rotors..... like this...

    images (1).jpg

When I moved, and had to haul 2 large sport and touring bikes to their new home, I rented an enclosed trailer and it had chocks like the one above. I had a strap break and I found my big sport bike tilted to one side with the rotor resting on the chock. I was lucky it didn't bend/warp the rotor. The Condor, or others like, it are much more secure. They'll hold the bike up in the driveway with no straps....

    Just my opinion, YMMV...

Of all the brands I had available to me locally when I was shopping a 5x8 ,, the NNT was the best built.
That is a heck of a deal.

My little 4x8 rides well too when overloaded. I just wonder how hard it is on the axles, bearings and tires as they produce more Than the nomaL heat when running that full

Yea those little 12" tire 5x8 trailers at TSC are very small metal and the main trailer tounge is just one square stock piece that extends and is welded and or bolted to the horizontal cross piece on the front of the trailer . This is opposed to the small 4x8 that I have that uses thicker angle iron when it's used heavier tubing when used and the main tounge is not only thicker it has support tube welded from the trailer corners to meet back up with the tounge to make an A on the front tounge. It does not do the flopping and warping thing like the TSC trailers do when you jump on the front corners of the trailer.
