    I use the tach for reference. 13k and 14k sound a lot alike.

    Does that 385 have a limted coil? That can give the different sound when it's bumping the limiter. Most of the 385/390 will 4 stroke to 14k stock or real close.

    When one approaches the rev limiter, it can sound like 4 stroking, at least to me anyway. I always check with a tach when in doubt and back off 200-300RPM.

    No. It has an unlimited coil on it. It just won't do any more rpm's without screaming. Which is fine by me. It's stronger than ever. Stronger than stock, stronger than the last build, just strong. It just doesn't slow down in the cut. God Bless
