I dont recall J. I sold that box the day of the comp. My style of music never did warrent large subs. If I were going to build an enclosure now I would probably go with 4 8" sealed.
My memory seems to be selective. I can remember details of my old systems. One of my early ones (which would have been about 90-91) had a Radio Shack amp meter displayed with the amp rack. Analog style with the moving needle. I thought it was trick.
They are discus series. Made in Germany variety. Ran into a glitch with them. The 5-1/4 rear adapters available are chincy at best from what I've been reading. So, back in storage these will go. Said Eff it and am now searching for 6.5s. Very nice poly adapter available from Tacotunes.com Holy cow! This thread took off.
Trying to catch up on the thread. Some of y'all had/have some VERY nice pieces! I forgot about Soundstream. I thinthink the shop next town over carried their line. My local one did carry PPI. Orion was their mainstay line though. I did accomplish a bit today. Ran into some small issues. Lost a panel clip down in passenger door that took me 15 minutes to fish out. Later as I was preparing to place the new deck in its home, I realized that JVC has changed their output connector. Arrrgh!! So I spent half an hour disconnecting and then crimping up all the leads on the new HU. Did not think I'd have to do that. I do have factory adapter though, so unplugged and did that crap in the AC. 6X9s are now mounted. The voice coils on the old units are trashed. I'm going to chalk it up to moisture and corrosion. New units sounding pretty good off the deck. I gotta figure out the equalizer and tuning stuff on new HU. Many more options than I am accustomed to. Did not get a pic of HU yet, but here are the 69ers. Trick grills included, but I can't use em. Old vs new. Plastic cages are new to me. Where they live. Alqaida wiring kit that I use for all kinds of stuff. Midway through job. What a mess! Oh I did get a quick snap of HU I guess. It has lots of adjustment options. Separate sub preout and gain/level. Amp gain controls, speaker size selection and distance settings. Be a little bit before I figure it out. Scoche dash kit this time instead of Metro, which broke. Re used metal mounts off OEM radio this time since its a double DIN unit.
Oh, this is important too. First thing played on new deck. Not just because it's been my favorite movie my whole life, but the tracks are actually very well rounded sound wise. Lots of cymbals horns and drums. Good for tuning. Also good for motivating me to conduct guerilla warfare! Haha!
They don't make em like that anymore. I refuse to watch the remake. Can't improve on perfection. I feel the same about Willy Wonka. You're no Gene Wilder, Johnny Depp!
My all time fav is Top Gun and they are making another one now. I'm skeptical but eager. With Tom Cruise involved it should be good.
I saw that. Kilmer and McGinnis also supposed to be in it. Too bad Goose is gone. So many great military movies in the 80s! Top Gun was certainly epic. The first five minutes of the film are perfection with the launch sequence, then Kenny L kicks in! What a ride!
Back to stereo stuff.... I think I may stay with Quart for the 6.5s. They have a nice set with built in crossover that will match my 6x9s. XK1-116 X-Line Speakers: XK1-116: MB Quart X-Line 6.5 inch 2 way car audio coaxial speaker system with titanium dome tweeters (pair) @ MB Quart They also have a component version with tweets, but I'll likely just use coax. XC1-216 Speaker System: XC1-216: MB Quart X-Line 6.5 inch 2 way car audio components speaker system with titanium dome tweeters with silk surround (pair) @ MB Quart Have zeroed in on fosgate for door tweeters. Prime 1" Tweeter Kit | Rockford Fosgate ® Not sure I want components as I plan to only run the single Amp. Just using deck for Mids and highs.
Why not stay w/ MB and get the separates? You can utilize the tweets for your doors. Bet they sound much better too.
Having troubles finding adapters to fit them. Toyota used proprietary junk all through the truck requiring modification to fit regular speakers. The company who makes the mounts I bought does not offer the proper cutout size for the Quart tweets best I can tell. I may look into further. Have not ordered the tweeters yet. I went to fosgate because they will fit the adapters and had good reviews. The lowest end quarts rms rating is to low for the jvc deck and I think the mid range and high end (needs Amp) are incompatible with the mount adapter.
Dayum! Now that's the good stuff!! Being as I'm trying to build on a budget, I have not perused the high end components. I would surely love to have this type of gear, but am unwilling to make the investment required.
You can find some pretty decent stuff for budget money. I've heard good things about NVX Thankfully, I had an audio hoarding problem back when i didnt have a budget.
