Would you bet a dollar these weren’t used to store fuel? ;)

In a world where they have to put warning tags on almost everything ? Absolutely not. Not even just a dollar.

This thing is 100+ years old. Not many warning labels back then (also unlikely that it was made in China or Taiwan).

    Here’s a modern-day example:

This brings back memories of visits to my Aunts home in the hill country outside of Austin, Texas. Her house was full of old objects necessary for life in earlier times like spinning wheels, bed warmer pans and swing hooks for hanging pots in the fireplace. She used one exactly like in the video to start the fireplace or stove many times during our visits. I helped her start a few fires with it. She also had a bellows similar to the one in the video which I still have stored in our garage. The ball starters work OK but could be a little kerosene smelly and messy drippy if not handled carefully. I suppose you could use de-scented kerosene similar to what you can buy for hurricane lamps. Worst case scenario would be tipping the flaming pot over the floor right before snuffing. Thanks for this small trip down memory lane!
