I've had cuts that look like hamburger that don't bleed and others more like a paper cut that just gushed.
Glad he's basically okay, could have been deadly.

I'm just glad he's ok. That could have easily ended very differently, and in 999,999 out a million, it would have. He is a very lucky fellow.
He should buy a lottery ticket and go to the casino...

I wonder how sharp or dull the saw was when that happened? Shouldnt have to force a saw any newbies reading this.

How's that expression go, something along the lines of "If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough"

Yeah, if you aren’t careful that firewood could have cost him an arm and a leg…well, or at least a leg. I hope it heals up ok.

There’s quite a few videos on you tube demonstrating that chap’s won’t stop an electric/battery saw. Hope he is healing well.

I had not seen any electric saw vs chaps videos so I checked Utube and the first one in my search shows the chaps stopping the e saw instantly.

I have seen a few different videos where they test different saws on chaps. It seems to depend on how the saw hits, the brand of chaps, and the power of the saw.

Either way, there is less damage with chaps on vs off.

Is there any difference between a battery chainsaw vs chaps and a corded chainsaw vs chaps? I thought I heard the corded chainsaw has more torque and the material in chaps won't stop it. I could be wrong.

The makita corded saw i have has a safety pin on the trigger soon as you let go the saw stops so i i think chaps would definitely benefit you with makita corded saw

I don’t care. I still wear them. There is also quite a few videos showing they DO minimize damage. And NONE showing they cause more damage. If you don’t want to wear them don’t. I’m into risk reduction. It’s fine if you’re not. It’s your body. Value it as you wish.

I have chaps. Hate them but wear them on occasion. Those pictures have me looking at some quality chainsaw pants. Something I'll actually put on.

I did. Its a great idea if you like bibs. Once I wear out my bibs I'm not getting more. I'm not a fan of them.

Same here. If I'm going to cut some brush for a few minutes after work I rarely take the time to put them on. If I'm going to cut for a couple hours on Saturday, I do. But as bad as my back has gotten, I doubt I could cut for an hour.

I do the same despite knowing the brush is probably when we need them the most. Easier to get tangled and trip or stumble.

It’s important to remember chaps are not steel plating. The purpose of chaps is to reduce the severity of an injury. It’s an inch long gash that might need 3 or 4 stitches vs. plunging it into your flesh three inches deep where it severs an artery and you bleed out alone in the forest.
