It's not enough to notice or smell it even, just thins it out enough to flow better than molasses when it's cold. Sorta like putting a bit of paint thinner in paint.

ATF/AW32 hydro oil (same thing pretty much) would work as well. AW32 runs about $45 a pail. My processor is lubed that way. Bar and 3 chains have 600+ cords on them and are still going just fine.

I have run jd303 or tractor/trans fluid when I was out of bar oil.

I took a saw in trade that had been run on canola by a tree guy. Said it worked great. Only thing was when it came time for me to clean and work on the saw. The stuff was stuck and sticky on b+c inside clutch cover etc.

Also that walmart brand makes a good winter bar oil IMO. Thin and flows easily. Super Tech less then $8 a gal.

Yeah that one is a bit thinner. For whatever reason they don't often carry it at the stores here. Usually have the Poulan or sometimes another brand in qts for $5-6 a qt (ouch!)

I got a gallon of the super tech I am working on now. After that I will use the stuff I got on sale at TSC...usually I run the poulan as I think its cheapest.
